Taekwondo
''Taekwondo'', ''Tae Kwon Do'' or ''Taekwon-Do'' (; ko, 태권도/跆拳道 ) is a Korean form of martial arts involving punching and kicking techniques, with emphasis on head-height kicks, spinning jump kicks, and fast kicking techniques. The literal translation for tae kwon do is "kicking", "punching", and "the art or way of". They are a kind of martial arts in which one attacks or defends with hands and feet anytime or anywhere, with occasional use of weapons. The physical training undertaken in Taekwondo is purposeful and fosters strength of mind through mental armament. Taekwondo practitioners wear a uniform, known as a dobok. It is a combat sport and was developed during the 1940s and 1950s by Korean martial artists with experience in martial arts such as karate, Chinese martial arts, and indigenous Korean martial arts traditions such as Taekkyon, Subak, and Gwonbeop. Vaughn Scott (born 11 January 1990, Cape Town) is a male Taekwondo fighter who represented New Zealand at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the Men's 80kg weight class. He lost his first round fight to Argentine Sebastián Crismanich by a score of 9–5. Because Crismanich went on to win the gold medal, Scott was included in the repechage and lost his fight to Afghan Nesar Ahmad Bahave by a score of 11–6, and was eliminated from the Olympic tournament. Hayder Shkara
Hayder Shkara (born 21 May 1990) is a former professional Taekwondo athlete. Early life Shkara was introduced to martial arts at the age of 8, whilst living in Sydney. He entered the Australian national team in 2006. From 2009 to 2017, Shkara was on the Australian National Taekwondo team and competed at the 2009 World Taekwondo Championships, 2011 World Taekwondo Championships, 2013 World Taekwondo Championships, 2015 World Taekwondo Championships and 2017 World Taekwondo Championships. He attempted to gain selection to the London 2012 Olympic Games but failed to qualify, after a loss to Vaughn Scott. Shkara was part of the Australian team's successful run at the 2015 Pacific Games, winning a gold medal there and claiming three bronze medals at the 2015 Polish, Russian and Serbian Opens.
