Table Extraction
Table extraction is the process of recognizing and separating a table from a large document, possibly also recognizing individual rows, columns or elements. It may be regarded as a special form of information extraction. Table extractions from webpages can take advantage of the special HTML elements that exist for tables, e.g., the "table" tag, and programming libraries may implement table extraction from webpages. The Python pandas software library can extract tables from HTML webpages via its read_html() function. More challenging is table extraction from PDFs or scanned images, where there usually is no table-specific machine readable markup. Systems that extract data from tables in scientific PDFs have been described. Wikipedia presents some of its information in tables, and, e.g., 3.5 million tables can be extracted from the English Wikipedia. Some of the tables have a specific format, e.g., the so-called infoboxes. Large-scale table extraction of Wikipedia infoboxes forms ...

Table (information)
A table is an arrangement of information or data, typically in rows and columns, or possibly in a more complex structure. Tables are widely used in communication, research, and data analysis. Tables appear in print media, handwritten notes, computer software, architectural ornamentation, traffic signs, and many other places. The precise conventions and terminology for describing tables vary depending on the context. Further, tables differ significantly in variety, structure, flexibility, notation, representation and use. Information or data conveyed in table form is said to be in tabular format (adjective). In books and technical articles, tables are typically presented apart from the main text in numbered and captioned floating blocks. Basic description A table consists of an ordered arrangement of rows and columns. This is a simplified description of the most basic kind of table. Certain considerations follow from this simplified description: * the term row has several c ...

DBpedia
DBpedia (from "DB" for "database") is a project aiming to extract structured content from the information created in the Wikipedia project. This structured information is made available on the World Wide Web. DBpedia allows users to semantically query relationships and properties of Wikipedia resources, including links to other related datasets. In 2008, Tim Berners-Lee described DBpedia as one of the most famous parts of the decentralized Linked Data effort. Background The project was started by people at the Free University of Berlin and Leipzig University''DBpedia: A Nucleus for a Web of Open Data'', available a in collaboration with OpenLink Software, and is now maintained by people at the University of Mannheim and Leipzig University. The first publicly available dataset was published in 2007. The data is made available under free licences (CC-BY-SA), allowing others to reuse the dataset; it doesn't however use an open data license to waive the sui generis database ri ...

The Semantic Scholar team is actively researching the use of artificial-intelligence in natural language processing, machine learning, Human-Computer interaction, and information retrieval. Semantic Scholar began as a database surrounding the topics of computer science, geoscience, and neuroscience. However, in 2017 the system began including biomedical literature in its corpus. As of September 2022, they now include over 200 million publications from all fields of science. Technology Semantic Scholar provides a one-sentence summary of scientific literature. One of its aims was to address the challenge of reading numerous titles and lengthy abstracts on mobile devices. It also seeks to ensure that the three mill ...

Document AI
Document AI or Document Intelligence is a technology that uses natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to train computers to simulate a human review of documents. NLP enables the computer to 'understand' the contents of documents, including the contextual nuances of the language within them, before extracting the information and insights contained in the documents. The technology can then categorize and organize the documents themselves.{{Cite web, title=Why Digitizing Documents has been Accelerated by COVID-19 Pandemic, url=https://www.eweek.com/enterprise-apps/why-digitizing-documents-has-been-accelerated-by-covid-19-pandemic, access-date=2021-02-11, website=eWEEK, date=15 January 2021 Document AI is used to process and parse forms, tables, receipts, invoices, tax forms, contracts, loan agreements, financial reports, etc. Key Features Document AI utilizes machine learning to extract information from documents in digital and print forms. It is a structured document containing a set of attribute–value pairs, and in Wikipedia represents a summary of information about the subject of an Article (publishing), article. In this way, they are comparable to data table (information), tables in some aspects. When presented within the larger document it summarizes, an infobox is often presented in a sidebar (publishing), sidebar format. An infobox may be implemented in another document by transclusion, transcluding it into that document and specifying some or all of the attribute–value pairs associated with that infobox, known as parameterization. Information Extraction
Information extraction (IE) is the task of automatically extracting structured information from unstructured and/or semi-structured machine-readable documents and other electronically represented sources. In most of the cases this activity concerns processing human language texts by means of natural language processing (NLP). Recent activities in multimedia document processing like automatic annotation and content extraction out of images/audio/video/documents could be seen as information extraction Due to the difficulty of the problem, current approaches to IE (as of 2010) focus on narrowly restricted domains. An example is the extraction from newswire reports of corporate mergers, such as denoted by the formal relation: :\mathrm(company_1, company_2, date), from an online news sentence such as: :''"Yesterday, New York based Foo Inc. announced their acquisition of Bar Corp."'' A broad goal of IE is to allow computation to be done on the previously unstructured data. A more sp ...
