Teahupo'o
Teahupoo () is a village on the southwestern coast of the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is known for the surf break and heavy, glassy waves offshore, often reaching , and sometimes up to . It is the site of the annual Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition, part of the World Championship Tour (WCT) of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour surfing circuit, and used to be one stop in the World Tour of the International Bodyboarding Association. Surfing made its debut appearance at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan. It has also been approved by the IOC for inclusion at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Surfing competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled to be held between October 24th and 30th, 2023 at Punta de Lobos beach in the Pichilemu commune of Chile. 8 medal events are scheduled to be contested (four per each gender). A total of 88 surfers will qualify to compete at the games. The longboard event will be used as a qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Qualification A total of 88 surfers will qualify across various qualification tournaments. The host nation Chile, will be automatically be allocated ten quota spots across the eight events. The 2023 World Surf League is the 46th season of all iterations of the tour circuit for professional surfers. Billabong Pipe Masters will be the first round of the tour. For the third time, the season will end at Lower Trestles, in San Clemente, USA, with the top five seeded men and women from the season going head to head to determine the champion at the WSL Finals. Filipe Toledo and Stephanie Gilmore are the defending champions. The International Surfing Association (ISA) is the world governing authority for surfing, SUP racing, SUP surfing, bodyboarding and all other wave riding activities. The ISA is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the ISA banned athletes and officials from Russia from ISA events, and said the ISA would not stage events in Russia.
