Caroll Spinney
Caroll Edwin Spinney (December 26, 1933 – December 8, 2019) was an American puppeteer, cartoonist, author, artist and speaker, most famous for playing Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on ''Sesame Street'' from its inception in 1969 until 2018. Early life Spinney was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, Waltham, Massachusetts, on December 26, 1933, to Chester and Margaret Spinney. He had two older brothers Bruce and Glenn. His mother, a native of Bolton, England, named him Caroll despite him being male because he was born the day after Christmas. He drew and painted from childhood, and developed a love of puppeteering when he saw a performance of "Three Little Kittens" at the age of five. This motivated him to purchase a monkey puppet from a jumble sale, rummage sale three years later and put on a puppet show utilizing the monkey and a plush snake. Spinney Abbey
Spinney Abbey, originally known as Spinney Priory, is a house and farm on the site of a former monastic foundation close to the village of Wicken, on the edge of the fens in Cambridgeshire, England. Monastic origins Between 1216 and 1228, Beatrice, the granddaughter of Wimar, Steward of the Count of Brittany, founded the Priory of St Mary and the Holy Cross in the spinney a mile (1.6 km) from Wicken. The priory accommodated three canons of the Augustinian order. It was endowed with the advowson of the parish church, 55 acres (223,000 m2) of land, a marsh called Frithfen and the fishery of Gormere. Frithfen is likely to have included at least part of the area now known as Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve, although its exact location is unclear. George Wilbur Spinney
George Wilbur Spinney, CMG (1889–1948) was a Canadian banker. He served as president of the Bank of Montreal from December 1942 until his death in February 1948. He was also chairman of the National War Finance Committee from its inception in 1941 until 1943, when he became the honorary chairman. Life and career Spinney was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on April 3, 1889. He joined Bank of Montreal after high school, and served in a number of capacities before being appointed as secretary to the General Manager, Sir Frederick Williams-Taylor, in 1915. In 1922, Spinney was appointed assistant to the General Manager, responsible for organizing Bank of Montreal's securities department, and in 1928 he assumed responsibility for the Quebec, Maritimes and Newfoundland branches of the bank. Spinney Hills is an inner city area of Leicester, England. It is situated to the north of the core Highfields area, around Spinney Hill Park. To the north is Northfields, to the east North Evington, to the west is the railway line, and to the south is the main part of Highfields. It is also a ward of the City of Leicester whose population at the 2011 census was 25,561. Spinney Hill Park The park was laid out in 1885 on a sloping site, to ensure the east side of the expanding town had access to some open parkland. The Town Council had opened Abbey Park in 1882, on the north side of Leicester; converted Victoria Park from a race course 1883; and opened Western Park in 1887, thus in five years, the expanding suburbs on all sides of the town were provided with parks and recreational amenities. Arthur F. Spinney, Jr. (1927–1994) was an American gridiron football guard. He played nine seasons with the Baltimore Colts in the National Football League (NFL) and was captain of the 1949 Eagles' football team. Spinney attended Boston College. He missed the 1951 and 1952 NFL seasons due to military service. After his career he served as an offensive line coach for Boston College and the Boston Patriots under Mike Holovak and was also a public relations official. For a brief time, Spinney worked for the American Biltrite Rubber Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts, as a consultant to its Sports Surfaces Division. In 1972, along with Lawrence J. The Spinney Local Nature Reserve
The Spinney, Carshalton (or Nightingale Road Bird Sanctuary) is a 0.4 hectare local nature reserve in Carshalton in the London Borough of Sutton, England. It is owned by Sutton Council and managed by the council and Sutton Nature Conservation Volunteers. It used to be managed by the London Wildlife Trust. The L-shaped reserve is a mixture of woodland and scrub, with the main trees being plane and elm. Breeding birds include dunnocks, wrens and blackbirds. Other animals include wood boring beetles and foxes. Spinney Hills, East Quogue
Spinney Hills is in East Quogue, New York on the eastern end of the Long Island Central Pine Barrens region. It is sometimes used as a hiking, hunting, and off-roading area for dirt bikers, quadders, paintballers, and four-wheelers that includes miles of trails with near beach sand consistency. Spinney Hills gets its name because of Spinney Road, which used to connect the East Quogue side of the hills to Sears Bellows County Park and Flanders (home of the Big Duck) to the north prior to the construction of the Sunrise Highway New York State Route 27. This region was created by glacial deposits of rock and sand during the last ice age. The sandy soil also absorbs most rainfall so there are few ponds or rivers in the area.
