Ski Cross
Ski cross is a skiing competition which incorporates terrain features traditionally found in freestyle skiing with courses which include big-air jumps and high-banked turns. In spite of the fact that it is a timed racing event, it is often considered a type of freestyle skiing. What sets ski cross apart from other alpine skiing disciplines is that it involves more than one skier racing down the course. Any intentional contact with other competitors like grabbing or any other forms of contact meant to give the competitor an advantage leads to disqualification. Ski cross is a part of the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships, the world championship organized by the FIS for freestyle skiing. Les Contamines-Montjoie
Les Contamines-Montjoie () is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. Etymology The original name of the village, ''Les Contamines,'' is from the word ''contamines'', which in the ancient local dialect meant ploughable land on the estate of the squire. History In 1760 the parish became independent of the parish of Saint-Nicolas de Véroce. Creation of the local Mountain Guides Company which was established in 1850, marked the first corporation in the village dedicated to tourism. Further development surged after 1900, in the form of hotels, restaurants, and, in 1911, a local ski club. The first ski lift began operation in 1937. 2004–05 FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup
The 2004/05 FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup was the twenty sixth World Cup season in freestyle skiing organised by International Ski Federation. The season started on 4 September 2004 and ended on 11 March 2005. This season included three disciplines: aerials, moguls and ski cross. Halfpipe was also on schedule but all events were cancelled and so crystal globes were not awarded. There were no dual mogul events on world cup calendar this season. X Games
The X Games are an annual extreme sports event organized, produced and broadcast by ESPN. Coverage is also shown on ESPN's sister network, ABC. The inaugural X Games were held during the summer of 1995 in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island, United States. Participants compete to win bronze, silver, and gold medals, as well as prize money. Sergey Ridzik
Sergey Sergeyevich Ridzik (russian: Сергей Серге́евич Ридзик, born 25 October 1992, Monchegorsk, Murmansk Oblast, Russia) is a Russian freestyle skier. Competing for Independent Olympic Athletes from Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the ski cross. He replicated this success at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Career Ridzik was an alpine skier but, in 2011, switched to freestyle skiing. He did not qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics, and after the Olympics was seriously injured and could not compete for several months. On 15 December 2017, he won a World Cup race in Montafon, his only World Cup win by the time of the Olympics. Marc Bischofberger
Marc Bischofberger (born 26 January 1991) is a Swiss freestyle skier competing in ski cross discipline. Career He finished 16th at the 2015 World Championships and 10th at the 2017 World Championships. He then won the silver medal at the 2018 Olympic Games. Brady Leman
Brady Leman (born October 16, 1986) is a Canadian freestyle skier specializing in ski cross, and the reigning Olympic champion in that discipline following his victory in the ski cross event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Career He won the opening event in the 2011–12 season after returning from multiple injuries and then finished the year as the second overall ranked male ski cross racer for the year. Leman, a former alpine skier, is noted for his smooth gliding and crisp passing skills. He was part of a Canadian sweep of the medals at the 2010 Winter X Games, where he finished in third place. Fanny Smith (born 20 May 1992) is a Swiss freestyle skier. She represented Switzerland at the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 Winter Olympics. As of January 2023, she has 29 victories and 67 podiums on the World Cup circuit. She won gold at the World Championships in Voss in 2013. Brittany Phelan (born September 24, 1991) is a Canadian freestyle skier who competes in ski cross. She was formerly an alpine skier, specializing in slalom skiing. She won the silver medal in women's ski cross at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Career Phelan represented Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where she finished 15th in the slalom. Anna Holmlund
Anna Ida Holmlund (born 3 October 1987) is a Swedish former ski cross athlete. Career Holmlund won 19 World Cup races and three ski cross World Cups up to 2016. She came sixth at the 2010 Winter Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. She won a bronze medal at the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships. During a practice run on 19 December 2016 in Innichen, Holmlund crashed and suffered head injuries with brain hemorrhages and facial fractures, including a diffuse axonal injury. Doctors put her in a medically induced coma in a hospital in Bolzano and a week later she was flown back to Sweden. Kelsey Serwa (born September 1, 1989) is a Canadian retired freestyle skier who was a member of the Canadian national ski cross team. She won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and a silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She is the 2011 FIS World Champion and two times Winter X Games champion. Marielle Thompson (born June 15, 1992) is a Canadian freestyle skier specializing in ski cross. She is the 2014 Winter Olympic and 2019 World champion in women's ski cross, as well as a three-time FIS World Cup Crystal Globe winner as the top-ranked athlete in that discipline (for the 2011–2012, 2013–2014, and 2016–17 seasons) and the 2013 Junior World champion.
