Singing Bird Box
A singing bird box (''boîte à oiseau chanteur'' in French) is a box, usually rectangular-shaped, which contains within a miniature automaton singing bird concealed below an oval lid and activated by means of an operating lever. Its origins are found in the city of Geneva and its invention in 1784/85 is attributed to Pierre Jaquet-Droz. The French term ''tabatière'' has also come to be used for any small decorative box resembling a snuffbox in form but not necessarily any longer used to contain Snuff (tobacco), snuff. Characteristics This object is made up of two separate parts, habitually crafted by different makers. The outer casing is a rectangular box variable in size, although with a standard measurement of approximately 100 × 65 × 40 mm, made of base metal, precious metal, Tortoiseshell material, tortoiseshell or other materials. Barrel (horology)
Used in mechanical watches and clocks, a barrel is a cylindrical metal box closed by a cover, with a ring of gear teeth around it, containing a spiral spring called the mainspring, which provides power to run the timepiece. The barrel turns on an arbor (axle). The spring is hooked to the barrel at its outer end and to the arbor at its inner end. Vallée De Joux
The Vallée de Joux () is a valley of the Jura Mountains mainly in the Swiss Canton of Vaud. The valley also continues into France ( Jura département) at its higher, southwestern, end. Located north of Geneva and northwest of Lausanne, its mean elevation is over . There are three Swiss lakes in the ''Vallée de Joux'': the lac de Joux (around long), the lac Brenet and Lake Ter. Villeret, Switzerland
Villeret () is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (''Jura Bernois''). History Villeret is first mentioned in 1390 as ''Villeret''. During the Late Middle Ages and the Early Modern Era it was part of the seigniory of Erguel under the Prince-Bishop of Basel.
