According to a U.S. Department of Justice study, men rape and sexually assault Native American women more than 2.5 times than any other ethnicity. The same study shows that men victimize Native American women the most by all races out of all populations in the United States. In most cases the FBI investigates the crime and the office of the United States Attorney decides whether to prosecute as opposed to tribal law enforcement. Prosecuting men for assaulting, raping, kidnapping, and murdering women on Native American soil has been called an extremely important first step in a series of legal changes that would hold white men accountable for crimes at the community, state, and federal level.
