The is a venue that hosted the rowing event at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Originally completed in 1939 for the 1940 Summer Olympics that were cancelled due to World War II. Jan Justus "Jan-Just" Bos (28 July 1939 – 24 March 2003) was a Dutch botanist, television presenter, and rower who competed in the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics. Bos (Dutch for "forest") studied forestry at the Wageningen University. While a student in Wageningen, he was the coxwain of the Dutch coxed pair, which was eliminated in the repechage at the 1960 Olympics. Four years later he won a bronze medal in the same event, together with Erik Hartsuiker and Herman Rouwé. From 1968 on he worked at his Wageningen University, becoming a faculty member of the department of plant systematics. Henry Kent Mitchell II (born March 29, 1939) is a retired American rowing coxswain. He competed in the coxed pairs at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won a bronze and a gold medal, respectively. He was a law student at the UC Berkeley School of Law at the time. He won a bronze medal in the same event in 1960 while an undergraduate at Stanford University (class of 1961). Only two other Americans have coxed two crews to Olympic medals. He also coxed Stanford to two national championships, in 1961 and 1962. Following graduation from law school in 1965 he practiced law in Palo Alto, California. Francis Conn Findlay (April 24, 1930April 8, 2021) was an American Olympic rower and sailor. He won four Olympic medals in those two sports, including two golds in coxed pair. He was also part of the America's Cup sailing crews that won in 1974 and 1977. He is one of 11 sailors to have won both the America's Cup and an Olympic medal. Findlay started competitive rowing while attending the University of Southern California. He participated in his first Olympic Games in 1956, winning his first gold medal in coxed pair. After finishing third in that discipline at the Olympics four years later, he recaptured gold at the 1964 Summer Olympics. He did not make another Olympic appearance for 12 years until returning in 1976, switching to sailing and securing bronze in Tempest class.
