Reading is the process of taking in the sense or meaning of Letter (alphabet), letters, symbols, etc., especially by Visual perception, sight or Somatosensory system, touch. Read codes are a Medical terminology, clinical terminology system that was in widespread use in General Practice in the United Kingdom until around 2018, when NHS England switched to using SNOMED CT. Read codes are still in use in Scotland and in England are permitted for use in NHS secondary care settings, such as dentistry and mental health care until 31 March 2020. Read codes support detailed clinical encoding of multiple patient phenomena including: occupation; social circumstances; ethnicity and religion; clinical signs, symptoms and observations; laboratory tests and results; diagnoses; diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical procedures performed; and a variety of administrative items (e.g. whether a screening recall has been sent and by what communication modality, or whether an item of service fee has been claimed). Read, Lancashire
Read is a village in Lancashire 5 miles west northwest of Burnley and 2 miles east of Whalley. It is on the A671 which is the main road between Burnley and Clitheroe. The population of the civil parish as taken at the 2011 census was 1,419. History The name "Read" is a contraction of Old English words meaning female roe deer and ridge or headland. The old village developed in the 16th century along the main mediaeval road between Whalley and Padiham. The Battle of Read Old Bridge was fought in 1643 between the Royalist and Parliamentarian forces. The Royalist force of about 4,000 men, commanded by the Earl of Derby, had taken the village of Whalley. The Parliamentary force, numbering only about 400 men, were positioned near Read Old Bridge. As the Royalist forces approached the bridge they faced withering musket fire causing them to retreat in confusion. Chicago-Read Mental Health Center (CRMHC, often called simply Read) is a state-run inpatient JCAHO-accredited facility with between 150 and 200 beds located in the neighborhood of Dunning on the northwest side of the city of Chicago close to O'Hare International Airport in the state of Illinois. It has served the adult residents of Chicago under various names since 1854 as a repository for the mentally ill and destitute and as an alternative to incarceration for mentally ill offenders. Its former names have included the Chicago State Hospital and the Charles F. Read Zone Center; in 1885, it was called The County Insane Asylum and Infirmary. Read Viemeister (1922 – 10 September 1993) was an American industrial designer. He was the Creative Director for the Lippincott team working on the Tucker car in 1947, and the founder of Vie Design Studios in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Early life and education Born in Baltimore in 1922 Read Viemeister was the son of architect August L. Viemeister and artist Janet Emmons Viemeister. The family later moved to a house his father designed in Roslyn Heights, NY. During the Depression they traveled to Taos, New Mexico, as well as the 1939 World's Fair. Later, Viemeister was exempted from military service because of a Polio disability. He went on to study at Pratt Institute with many of the founders of the American industrial design education: Donald Dohner, Alexander Kostellow and Rowena Reed Kostellow.
