Punchlines
''Punchlines'' was a comedy panel game show that aired on ITV from 3 January 1981 to 22 December 1984 and was hosted by Lennie Bennett. The show itself was based on a failed 1979 American game show pilot of the same name hosted by Bill Cullen, which in turn, was an attempted reboot of another American game show from 1966-69 called ''Eye Guess''. Format Main Game Each week, teams of a celebrity guest and a member of the public had to match the punchlines which were given by 8 other guests who were seated in ''Celebrity Squares'' style boxes to the questions that were asked by the host, and the first team to reach 150 points won the chance to win a major prize, while the losing contestant left with a Lennie Bennett doll in the first two series, then from series three onwards, they left with a case of champagne and some glasses. Lennie Bennett
Michael Berry (26 September 1938 – 8 April 2009), known professionally as Lennie Bennett, was an English comedian and game show host. After attending the Palatine Secondary School in Blackpool, Bennett became a journalist for the '' West Lancashire Evening Gazette'' before becoming a professional hypnotist and appearing on the BBC light entertainment programme '' The Good Old Days'' in 1969. He starred with Jerry Stevens in the ''Lennie and Jerry Show'', which ran from 1978 to 1980. Bennett was also the host of ''Punchlines'' and ''Lucky Ladders'' in the 1980s. He also performed in twelve Royal Variety Shows, and had a brief stint as a chat show host on London Weekend Television in 1982, before working as a speaker on the after-dinner circuit. Bennett suffered a serious heart attack in 1994, which necessitated a bypass operation. Matthew Kelly
Matthew Kelly (born David Allan Kelly, 9 May 1950) is an English actor and presenter. Having been trained as a theatre actor, he first came to public prominence as a television presenter of ITV light entertainment shows such as ''Game for a Laugh'', ''You Bet!'' and ''Stars in Their Eyes''. In the 2000s he returned to acting, appearing in several West End productions, while also acting in some television roles. Early life Kelly was born in Urmston, Lancashire. As a child, he lived on Primrose Avenue in the town and became interested in acting when at the Urmston Musical Theatre, most notably playing the role of Louis in a production of ''The King and I'' in 1963. Robin Houston
Robin Houston (born London, 1947) is a British voiceover artist and former announcer, radio and television newsreader and quiz show host. After starting his career as an announcer and stage manager, he became one of the pioneers of commercial radio in the United Kingdom. He went on to read the news on television for 15 years and to become one of the most well known announcers in television entertainment. Eye Guess
''Eye Guess'' was an American game show created by Bob Stewart and hosted by Bill Cullen, which aired on NBC from January 3, 1966, to September 26, 1969. The game combined a general knowledge quiz with a ''Concentration''-style memory element, where the answers were shown to the players and their recall of their positions was tested. This was the first game show by Bob Stewart Productions. Stewart, a former producer for Goodson-Todman Productions, created this series and packaged it with Filmways. Don Pardo announced for the first year, after which Jack Clark replaced him for the rest of the run. The show used the Al Hirt tune "Sugar Lips" as its theme song. Gameplay Two contestants faced a nine-space game board, divided into three rows of three boxes. The outer boxes were numbered 1–8, and the center box contained the "Eye Guess" logo. Jeremy Leo Kewley (born 16 August 1960) is an Australian actor, writer, producer and convicted child sex offender. He made his professional acting debut as an adolescent in the feature film '' The Devil's Playground'' (1976). Early life Kewley was born 16 August 1960 in Melbourne, Australia. The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network.
