Lennie Bennett
Michael Berry (26 September 1938 – 8 April 2009), known professionally as Lennie Bennett, was an English comedian and game show host. After attending the Palatine Secondary School in Blackpool, Bennett became a journalist for the '' West Lancashire Evening Gazette'' before becoming a professional hypnotist and appearing on the BBC light entertainment programme '' The Good Old Days'' in 1969. He starred with Jerry Stevens in the ''Lennie and Jerry Show'', which ran from 1978 to 1980. Bennett was also the host of ''Punchlines'' and ''Lucky Ladders'' in the 1980s. He also performed in twelve Royal Variety Shows, and had a brief stint as a chat show host on London Weekend Television in 1982, before working as a speaker on the after-dinner circuit. Bennett suffered a serious heart attack in 1994, which necessitated a bypass operation. Blackpool Gazette
The ''Blackpool Gazette'' (locally marketed as simply ''The Gazette'') is an English daily newspaper based in Blackpool, Lancashire. Published every day except Sunday, it covers the towns and communities of the Fylde coast. It was founded as ''The West Lancashire Evening Gazette'' in 1929 before being renamed the ''Evening Gazette'', and then ''Blackpool Gazette''. The paper's history dates back to a weekly publication founded in 1873. Background The newspaper is published by JPI Media (owned by National World), and is known locally as ''The Gazette''. Carleton Crematorium
Carleton Crematorium, together with the adjacent necropolis, Carleton Cemetery, is a graveyard located within the Greenlands ward of Blackpool with its main entrance on Stocks Road in Carleton, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, in England. It was opened on 18 July 1935. The building was created by Blackpool Borough architect, J.C. Robinson, who based his design on his own interpretation of the Mausoleum of Mausolus. At the north door is a chapel containing Books of Remembrance, which note the names of all those cremated or interred there. The site is located in Blackpool and partly in Carleton, Poulton-le-Fylde, the crematorium comes under the jurisdiction of Blackpool Council. ''Fantasy Football League'' is a British television comedy programme hosted by David Baddiel and Frank Skinner. It was inspired by the Fantasy Football phenomenon which started in the early 1990s and followed on from a BBC Radio 5 programme hosted by Dominik Diamond, although the radio and TV versions overlapped by several months. Three series were broadcast from 14 January 1994 to 10 May 1996 (followed by episodes during Euro 96). The show then moved to ITV for live specials on alternate nights throughout the 1998 World Cup and then again through Euro 2004. In May 2022 it was announced that a new series of the show had been commissioned to be broadcast on Sky Max with new hosts Elis James and Matt Lucas. According to Frank Skinner in 2010, the series would never return because it had been superseded by other programmes of a similar style. ''You Bet!'' is a British game show that aired on ITV between 20 February 1988 and 12 April 1997, initially hosted by Bruce Forsyth from 1988 to 1990, then by Matthew Kelly from 1991 to 1995 and finally by Darren Day from 1996 to 1997. Format A panel of celebrities would bet on the ability of members of the public to achieve unlikely challenges and stunts, which they had usually planned and rehearsed many times, within a limited amount of time. Television South West (TSW) was the ITV franchise holder for the South West England region from 1 January 1982 until 31 December 1992, broadcasting from studios at Derry's Cross in Plymouth, Devon. History Origins and Launch On 28 December 1980 TSW was awarded the contract to serve the South West England region from the night of 31 December 1981 at 12 midnight for a 10-year period, succeeding incumbent Westward Television, which had served the area since 1961.
