Pacific Serviceberry
''Amelanchier alnifolia'', the Saskatoon berry, Pacific serviceberry, western serviceberry, western shadbush, or western juneberry, is a shrub with an edible berry-like fruit, native to North America. Description It is a deciduous shrub or small tree that most often grows to , rarely to , in height. Its growth form spans from suckering and forming colonies to clumped. The leaves are oval to nearly circular, long and broad, on a leaf stem, margins toothed mostly above the middle. As with all species in the genus ''Amelanchier'', the flowers are white, with five quite separate petals and five sepals. In ''A. alnifolia'', they are about across, with 20 stamens and five styles, appearing on short racemes of 3–20, somewhat crowded together, blooming from April to July. Wainwright is a town in east-central Alberta, Canada. It is approximately southeast of Edmonton. Malvidin is an O-methylated anthocyanidin, the 3',5'-methoxy derivative of delphinidin. As a primary plant pigment, its glycosides are highly abundant in nature. Natural occurrences Malvidin is responsible for the blue color found in petals of the ''Primula'' plants of the ''polyanthus'' group. Blue flowers of the blue pimpernel ('' Anagallis monelli'') have also a higher concentration of malvidin. Peonidin
Peonidin is an O-methylated anthocyanidin derived from Cyanidin, and a primary plant pigment. Peonidin gives purplish-red hues to flowers such as the peony, from which it takes its name, and roses. It is also present in some blue flowers, such as the morning glory. Like most anthocyanidins, it is pH sensitive, and changes from red to blue as pH rises because anthocyanidins are highly conjugated chromophores. When the pH is changed, the extent of the conjugation (of the double bonds) is altered, which alters the wavelength of light energy absorbed by the molecule. Petunidin
Petunidin (Pt), like Europinidin and Malvidin, is derived from Delphinidin and is an O-methylated anthocyanidin of the 3-hydroxy type. It is a natural organic compound, a dark-red or purple water-soluble pigment found in many redberries including chokeberries (''Aronia sp''), Saskatoon berries (''Amelanchier alnifolia'') or different species of grape (for instance ''Vitis vinifera'', or muscadine, ''Vitis rotundifolia''), and also part of the pigments responsible for the petal colors in many flowers. Delphinidin (also delphinidine) is an anthocyanidin, a primary plant pigment, and also an antioxidant. Delphinidin gives blue hues to flowers in the genera ''Viola'' and ''Delphinium''. Cyanidin is a natural organic compound. It is a particular type of anthocyanidin (glycoside version called anthocyanins). Quercetin is a plant flavonol from the flavonoid group of polyphenols.
