Odel (stylised as O▷ΞL and ODEL) is a public retail company, the first in Sri Lanka. Starting out as a single company focusing on the retail garment trade, Odel developed over the years to become the first department store in the country. History The company started when Otara Gunewardene began selling factory surplus garments and apparel from her car boot to family and friends in 1989. Gunewardene registered Odel (the name is based on her own name, Otara Del Gunawardene) as a private limited liability company on 31 October 1990 and the company opened its first store on Dickmans Road in Colombo. In 1994 they opened their second store in Majestic City and by 1995 the company had a total of nine stores located in city hotels and shopping centres throughout Colombo. Maharagama
Maharagama is an outer suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka on the High-Level (A4) Road about from the centre of the commercial capital. It developed rapidly in the 1980s as a dormitory suburb. Governed by the Maharagama Urban Council, the town possesses facilities like supermarkets, department stores, clothing, food and beverages shops to fulfill the needs of citizens. Old Colombo Dutch Hospital
The Old Colombo Dutch Hospital (known as ''The Dutch Hospital'') is considered to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area dating back to the Netherlands, Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. It is now a heritage building and a shopping and dining precinct. History Dutch Era Built as a hospital by the Dutch, it has been used for several different purposes, over the years. It is believed to have existed since 1681, as recorded by German Christoper Schweitzer. The Dutch established the Colombo hospital to look after the health of the officers and other staff serving under the Dutch East India Company. The hospital's close proximity to the Colombo Harbour, harbour allowed it to serve Dutch seafarers. Most patients were provided with a mat, while the most ill were given a mattress. Queen's Hotel, Kandy
The Queen's Hotel is an 80-room British Colonial style three star hotel, located at central hill capital Kandy in Sri Lanka. Located in the center of the city at end of the main street, this former Governor's residence is one of the oldest hotels in Sri Lanka with a history of over 160 years. It is currently managed by the Ceylon Hotels Corporation PLC. The hotel was originally constructed as a residence, the 'Dullawe Walauwa', designed by Devendra Mulachariya on instructions from King Sri Vickrama Rajasinha. Soon after the British defeated the Kandyan Kingdom in 1815, it was adapted as a mansion for the Governor of Ceylon, with adjoining buildings constructed to house British troops. Kandy City Centre
Kandy City Centre is a ten-storey commercial and retail complex which is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka near the Temple of Tooth Relic. Construction of the centre was started in 1993 and opened in 2008. The complex was the vision of Thusitha Wijayasena and undertaken by his company, Property Finance and Investments Kandy (Pvt) Ltd. Construction The site upon which this complex was built was owned by Walker Sons and Company and was occupied by a number of buildings including a cinema and other stores before the site was cleared in 1993. Kiribathgoda ( si, කිරිබත්ගොඩ, ta, கிரிபத்கொடை) is a large suburb of Colombo and is situated on A1 highway, between Kelaniya and Kadawatha. It is the first commercial E-Suburb in Sri Lanka. Wattala
Wattala ( si, වත්තල, ta, வத்தளை) is a large suburb of Colombo city, in Western Province, Sri Lanka, situated around 9 km from Colombo city centre. This suburb is situated on A3 highway from Colombo to Negombo. Around Wattala, there are many villages and towns. People from all walks of life live in this area. The traditional fisher folk, large sections of the working class, many types of white collar workers, a fair number of professionals and even some richer folk live here. Churches, Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, mosques, schools of various grades and many private dispensaries are spread throughout the area.
