''The Longing'' is a 2020 point-and-click adventure game created by the Indie game, indie developer Studio Seufz. Set in an underground kingdom, it follows the Shade, a creature tasked with watching over a sleeping king for 400 days. The player explores caves, draws pictures, and reads books as they wait out the 400 days in Real time (media), real time. The in-game timer progresses regardless of the player's actions, but moves faster if the Shade performs certain actions such as decorating its home or lighting a fire. Director Anselm Pyta conceived ''The Longing'' after hearing a legend about a king sleeping inside the Barbarossa Cave. Pyta sought to explore feelings of loneliness and empathy in a narrative-driven story while using time as a Game mechanics, game mechanic. ''Longing'' is a 2013 play by the Scottish writer William Boyd, based on the short stories ''My Life'' ("The Story of a Provincial") and " A Visit to Friends" by the Russian author Anton Chekhov. Its premiere production ran at the Hampstead Theatre in London from 28 February to 6 April 2013 (with the press night on 7 March), directed by Nina Raine and starring Tamsin Greig, Iain Glen, John Sessions, Jonathan Bailey, Natasha Little, Eve Ponsonby and Catrin Stewart. ''Longing'' was to have been Dusty Springfield's second LP for the ABC Dunhill Records label, and ninth studio album overall, recorded in 1974 and planned for release the same year. Most of the ''Longing'' recordings were mixed and released much later on the compilations ''Simply Dusty'' (2000) and ''Beautiful Soul: The ABC Dunhill Collection'' (2001). Cape Longing () is a rocky cape on the east coast of Graham Land, Antarctica, forming the south end of a large ice-covered promontory which marks the west side of the south entrance to Prince Gustav Channel. It was discovered by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition under Otto Nordenskiöld in 1902, and so named by him because from the position of his winter hut on Snow Hill Island the cape lay in the direction of his "land of longing" which he was anxious to explore. Summary The song was first released as a demo tape titled "Longing ~Togireta Melody~", which was given out at X Japan's December 30–31, 1994 Tokyo Dome concerts.
