List Of Soviet Air Force Bases
This List of Soviet Air Force bases shows the state of the Soviet Air Force and Russian Air Force during the last decade of the Cold War to the mid-1990s. Dates shown indicate years during which units and aircraft were known to be at that airbase. If none is indicated, the date is unknown. In Russia the airbase naming convention seems to be to use the nearest village name, or in the case of a large city, use a numerical designator, i.e. Severomorsk-2. Quite often they are just referred to as, variously, "Tiksi aerodrome" and "Tiksi air base" (uncapitalized). This is also the convention that is used in declassified FOIA documents in the CIA archive website. Therefore, the construction 'X Air Base' or 'X Air Force Base' in regard to the USSR and Russian Federation appears to be incorrect. Alt Daber Airfield
The Old Daber Airfield (also known as Wittstock Air Base), is an abandoned military air base located just outside the town of Wittstock in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, in north-western Brandenburg, Germany. History From 1934, under Nazi-air skills initiative to revive the Luftwaffe, the site served as a glider field. From 1938 it was developed formally as a Luftwaffe airfield, with building extensions stopping in 1940. By this time the southern section of the site was linked to the railway at Groß Haßlow. On 3 May 1945, the Red Army overran the airfield, and occupied the site. From this point forward, several units of the Soviet Air Force were stationed at the site. 26th Air Army
The 26th Air Army was an Air army of the Soviet Air Forces active from 1949 to 1980, and then 1988-1992. It was formed by redesignation of the 1st Air Army in February 1949 (in accordance with a decree of 10 January 1949, ГШ ВС СССР No. ОРГ 120026), and controlled frontal aviation units stationed in the Belorussian Military District until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Under newly independent Belarus, the army headquarters was used to form that of the Belarusian Air Force in 1992. Żagań
Żagań ( French and german: Sagan, hsb, Zahań, la, Saganum) is a town in western Poland, on the Bóbr river, with 25,731 inhabitants (2019). The town is the capital of Żagań County in the historic region of Silesia. Previously in the Zielona Góra Voivodeship (1975–1998), Żagań has been in the Lubusz Voivodeship since 1999. Szprotawa (german: Sprottau) is a town in western Poland, in Żagań County, Lubusz Voivodeship. It has 11,820 inhabitants (2019). The 159th Guards Fighter Aviation Novorossiysk Red Banner Order of the Suvorov Regiment (159th Guards IAP) (Military Unit Number 52906) was a military unit of the Red Army Air Force, which participated in the Second World War. Today it is a regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces, stationed at Petrozavodsk Airport in Russian Karelia. It now flies the Sukhoi Su-27 and Sukhoi Su-35. 239th Fighter Aviation Division
The 239th Fighter Aviation Division was a fighter aircraft unit of the Soviet Air Forces and the Russian Air Force, which was in existence during World War II and from 1949 to 1998. First formation Its first formation was established on 12 June 1942 from the 6th Shock Aviation Group. With 6th Air Army from July 1942. On 1 July 1942 its first formation was part of the 6th Air Army. Fought in Battle of Demyansk (1943) and Staraya Russa Offensive. In recognition of its actions, the division was renamed the 5th Guards Fighter Aviation Division on 18 March 1943. Kluczewo Airfield
Kluczewo Airfield is a former Soviet airbase located in Kluczewo, a suburb of Stargard Szczeciński in Poland. Its concrete runway measured 2,500 x 60 m, but it has been closed to air traffic since 1992. Today the area of the former base has been converted into an industrial park. The base was originally built by the Luftwaffe in 1935 and used as ''Fliegerhorst Klützow'' until early 1945 when it was overrun by the Red Army. Soviet air units were based there from 1948 to 1992. Over the years, the base was expanded, and a number of hardened aircraft shelters built. A small military town housing the airmen and their families was built nearby. The 239th Fighter Aviation Division was headquartered at the base from 1945 to 1992. The last flying unit stationed there was the 159th 'Novorossiysk' Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment flying Su-27 Flankers. Milovice (Nymburk District)
Milovice (; german: Milowitz) is a town in Nymburk District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 12,000 inhabitants.
