Indicine
The zebu (; ''Bos indicus'' or ''Bos taurus indicus''), sometimes known in the plural as indicine cattle or humped cattle, is a species or subspecies of domestic cattle originating in the Indian sub-continent. Zebu are characterised by a fatty hump on their shoulders, a large dewlap, and sometimes drooping ears. They are well adapted to withstanding high temperatures, and are farmed throughout the Tropics, tropical countries, both as pure zebu and as Hybrid (biology), hybrids with taurine cattle, the other main type of domestic cattle. Zebu are used as draught animal, draught and riding animals, dairy cattle, and beef cattle, as well as for byproducts such as Hide (skin), hides and Feces, dung for fuel and manure. Some small breeds such as the Miniature Zebu, miniature zebu are also kept as Pet, pets. In 1999, researchers at Texas A&M University successfully cloned a zebu. Cattle
Cattle (''Bos taurus'') are large, domesticated, cloven-hooved, herbivores. They are a prominent modern member of the subfamily Bovinae and the most widespread species of the genus ''Bos''. Adult females are referred to as cows and adult males are referred to as bulls. Cattle are commonly raised as livestock for meat (beef or veal, see beef cattle), for milk (see dairy cattle), and for hides, which are used to make leather. They are used as riding animals and draft animals ( oxen or bullocks, which pull carts, plows and other implements). Another product of cattle is their dung, which can be used to create manure or fuel. In some regions, such as parts of India, cattle have significant religious significance. Cattle, mostly small breeds such as the Miniature Zebu, are also kept as pets. Different types of cattle are common to different geographic areas.
