Impairment Rating
An impairment rating is a percentage intended to represent the degree of an individual's impairment, which is a deviation away from one's normal health status and functionality. Impairment is distinct from disability. An individual's impairment rating is based on the restrictive impact of an impairment, whereas disability is broadly the consequences one's impairment. Impairment ratings given to an individual by different medical examiners are sometimes problematically inconsistent with each other. Disability is the experience of any condition that makes it more difficult for a person to do certain activities or have equitable access within a given society. Accessibility
Accessibility is the design of products, devices, services, vehicles, or environments so as to be usable by people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design and practice of accessible development ensures both "direct access" (i.e. unassisted) and "indirect access" meaning compatibility with a person's assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). Accessibility can be viewed as the "ability to access" and benefit from some system or entity. Disability abuse is when a person with a disability is abused physically, financially, sexually and/or psychologically due to the person having a disability. Disability Studies
Disability studies is an academic discipline that examines the meaning, nature, and consequences of disability. Initially, the field focused on the division between "impairment" and "disability," where impairment was an impairment of an individual's mind or body, while disability was considered a social constructionism, social construct. This premise gave rise to two distinct models of disability: the Social model of disability, social and medical model of disability, medical models of disability. In 1999 the social model was universally accepted as the model preferred by the field. However, in recent years, the division between the social and medical models has been challenged. Workers' Compensation
Workers' compensation or workers' comp is a form of insurance providing wage replacement and medical benefits to employees injured in the course of employment in exchange for mandatory relinquishment of the employee's right to sue his or her employer for the tort of negligence.
