Erik Hort
Erik Hort (born February 16, 1987 in Montebello, New York) is an American soccer player who is currently a Free Agent. Hort grew up In Montebello, NY. He is one of five children. His father, David Hort, is of Austrian descent and Mother, Ora Hort, is of Israeli descent. Hort grew up In the academy PDA (Players Development Academy) In New Jersey. Hort was also a member of the Eastern New York ODP, Regional and National Team. Very promising career ahead of him, Hort broke his leg in 2000 right before the National Team try outs, but quickly bounced back. In Hort's Senior year of Highschool He was discovered by Czech powerhouse Sparta Prague during a trip with the Regional team. He was eventually signed by them and spent one and a half seasons on their reserve team before joining the Fire in the fall of 2006. Greta Hort
Grethe Hjort (1903–1967) was a Danish-born professor of Danish and English literature. After graduating from the University of Copenhagen, she moved to Cambridge where she studied at Newnham College, earning a Ph.D. in 1931 and subsequently becoming a Pfeiffer research fellow at Girton College. While there, she obtained British citizenship and changed her name to Greta Hort. In 1938 she moved to Australia where she was appointed principal of University Women's College at the University of Melbourne. After resigning in 1946, she moved to Prague where she undertook biblical research until 1956. She then returned to Denmark, becoming Professor of English Literature at Aarhus University from 1958 until her death in 1967. She pioneered a programme of studies including Australian and Commonwealth literature and for the first time taught English-literature courses in the English language. Josiah Hort
Josiah Hort (c. 1674 – 14 December 1751), was an English clergyman of the Church of Ireland who ended his career as archbishop of Tuam. Born in Marshfield, Gloucestershire, son of John Hort, and brought up as a Nonconformist, Hort went to school with the hymn writer Isaac Watts, who was his lifelong friend. He began as a Nonconformist minister, but then conformed to the Church of England, attending Clare College, Cambridge. He was appointed in turn to the parishes of Wicken in East Anglia and Wendover in Buckinghamshire. In 1709 Hort went to Ireland to serve as chaplain for Thomas Wharton, 1st Marquess of Wharton, Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, and obtained a parish there, which he couldn't take up for several years pending litigation. In the meantime, he was granted the rectory of Haversham, Buckinghamshire. Vlastimil Hort
Vlastimil Hort (born 12 January 1944) is a German chess Grandmaster. During the 1960s and 1970s he was one of the world's strongest players and reached the 1977–78 Candidates Tournament for the World Chess Championship, but never qualified for a competition for the actual title. Hort was born in Kladno, Czechoslovakia and was a citizen of Czechoslovakia for the first part of his chess career. He achieved the Grandmaster title in 1965. He won a number of major international tournaments (Hastings 1967–68, Skopje 1969, etc.) and national championships (1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, and 1977). He gained recognition as one of the strongest non-Soviet players in the world, which led to him representing the "World" team in the great "USSR vs. Rest of the World" match of 1970, where he occupied fourth board and had an undefeated +1 score against the Soviet Grandmaster Lev Polugaevsky—in some respects his greatest result. Hort Baronets
The Hort Baronetcy, of Castle Strange in the County of Middlesex, is a title in the Baronetage of Great Britain. It was created on 8 September 1767 for John Hort, Consul-General at Lisbon, Portugal. He was the second son of The Right Reverend Josiah Hort, Archbishop of Tuam. The second Baronet sat as Member of Parliament for Kildare from 1831 to 1832. The third Baronet was a Lieutenant-General in the British Army and fought in the Crimean War. The current Baronet is Sir Andrew Edwin Fenton Hort, of East Prawle, Devon.
