Gorefest was a Dutch death metal band from Goes in Zeeland. It was founded in 1989 by Jan-Chris de Koeijer, Frank Harthoorn, Alex van Schaik and Marc Hoogendoorn. History Within two months of existence Gorefest recorded their first demo. A Dutch independent label, Foundation 2000, signed them for one album. Before recording ''Mindloss'', they released another demo in 1990, which received positive feedback. As a supporting act for Carcass they traveled through Belgium and the Netherlands impressing the metal-scene also on stage. Colin Richardson was the producer of 1991's album ''Mindloss''. Before they toured with Revenant from New Jersey, guitarist Alex van Schaik was replaced by Boudewijn Vincent Bonebakker. Not satisfied with Foundation 2000, Gorefest signed a contract in 1992 with Nuclear Blast. Hoogendoorn quit because of incidents during the Mindloss-tour and drummer Ed Warby (who came from the power metal band Elegy) took his place two weeks before recording sessio ...

Ed Warby
Edward R. Warby (born 7 March 1968) is a Dutch musician, best known as the drummer for death metal band Gorefest and progressive rock/metal project Ayreon. He also appeared in the band Agressor in 1982 and joined the Eindhoven-based metal band Elegy in 1987. Warby moved to Gorefest in 1992, where he replaced the former drummer just before the recording sessions of "False", he had to learn all themes and develop his work in just two weeks, which he managed to achieve in a matter so fast that producer Colin Richardson nicknamed him ''Fast Eddy''. After Gorefest split up in 1999, he took part in the re-united Gorefest in 2004. In 1998, Arjen Anthony Lucassen asked Warby to perform on his album ''Into the Electric Castle'', because Arjen was impressed with Warby's works with Gorefest. From that moment on, Warby had performed on Ayreon's every album, except for '' Universal Migrator Part 1: The Dream Sequencer'' and ''Transitus''. He also performed on the re-recording of ''Actual Fa ...

Death 'n' Roll
Death 'n' roll (portmanteau of ''death'' metal and rock'' 'n' roll'') is the subgenre of death metal music that incorporates hard rock-inspired elements to the overall sound. The achieved effect is that of death metal's trademark combination of growled vocals and highly distorted detuned guitar riffing with elements reminiscent of 1970s hard rock and heavy metal. Notable examples include Entombed, Gorefest, Carcass, Six Feet Under, Pungent Stench and the Fernando Colunga Ultimate Experience. History While the "death 'n' roll" tag was first associated with Entombed, Daniel Ekeroth associates the style with a previous group called Furbowl. After Entombed's release, '' Wolverine Blues'', the band became associated with what the music press dubbed as "death 'n' roll", a label which has followed Entombed's career ever since. Another noteworthy death 'n' roll release is '' Soul Survivor'', Gorefest's 1996 effort. This album showed more than a passing nod to classic rock. ...

Boudewijn Vincent Bonebakker
Boudewijn Vincent Bonebakker (born April 16, 1968) was born and raised in the town of Goes but moved to Breda at the age of 18. He is best known as the guitarist of Gorefest. Career He bought his first guitar at the age of sixteen. His father told him "if you want to keep that stringed instrument, you had better learn to make some angry sound noise out of it." He played with Stefan de Kroon (Racoon, Sjolmord) and Bert Hanssens (Hannibal) in the Stooges-like band 'the Yamahamamamas'. After the band's disbandment, he joined a band named LOOD, an industrial/noise band. LOOD took its influences from the music of Big Black, The Birthday Party, Rollins Band and Voivod. The band however did not last very long. In 1991, he joined Gorefest to replace Alex van Schaik. After the break-up of Gorefest, Bonebakker took full course education in classical guitar at the Tilburg conservatory and got his degree and focused on teaching in his hometown. He was asked to form a Thin Lizzy tribute ...

Dynamo Open Air
Dynamo Open Air is a festival in the Netherlands held (almost) every year between 1986 and 2005. It was reborn in 2008 as Dynamo Outdoor and in 2015 as Dynamo Metal Fest. History Originally held to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Dynamo rock club in Eindhoven, it grew from 5,000 people in the Dynamo parking lot up to 118,000 attendees in 1995. Until this day, the 1995 edition still is the largest multi-day open air festival ever held in the Netherlands. This caused too much pressure on the Dutch infrastructure and the festival had to shrink to a maximum of 60,000 visitors for 1996. From there it went downhill, mostly because the festival could not find a permanent venue. In 1999 Dynamo Open Air was held on a former rubbish dump in Mierlo, and the following year it went to the Goffertpark in Nijmegen. That was the first time DOA was held outside the province of North Brabant, and it was the first time in years that the festival had to shrink down to only one day. The previo ...
