The Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul ( pt, Governador do Mato Grosso do Sul) is the head of government of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is a public position chosen through the two-round majority electoral system. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the total votes in the first ballot, he is elected without the need for a second round. But if no candidate obtains an absolute majority, a second round of voting would take place, where only the two candidates who obtained the most votes in the first round would participate. The winner of the second round would be elected governor. The legislature lasts 4 years and the governor has the right to re-election, without term limits. The state was created by Complementary Law No. 31, sanctioned on October 11, 1977. Reinaldo Azambuja Silva (born May 13, 1963) is a Brazilian agriculturalist and politician, affiliated with the Brazilian Social Democracy Party, is the current governor of Mato Grosso do Sul since 2015, a position he will hold until January 1, 2023. In elections in Mato Grosso do Sul in 2014 he ran for governor. Azambuja came in second place in the first round and won the election in the second round against the candidate Delcídio Amaral. Londres Machado (born 3 February 1942) is a politician from Mato Grosso do Sul. He holds the Brazilian record for consecutive election victories, with successive terms starting in 1971. Pedro Pedrossian (13 August 1928 – 22 August 2017) was a Brazilian politician. Campo Grande (, ) is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the Center-West region of the country. The city is nicknamed ''Cidade Morena'' ("Swarthy City" in Portuguese) because of the reddish-brown colour of the region's soil. It has a population of 906,092, according to a 2020 IBGE estimate,. Harry Amorim Costa (23 May 1927 – 19 August 1988) was the first Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, when the state was created during the government of President Ernesto Geisel. In 1982, he was elected federal deputy for the PMDB, then the main opposition party to the government of João Figueiredo.
