MS Fascination
''Carnival Fascination'', originally ''Fascination'', was a cruise ship built at Helsinki, Finland in 1994. For most of her service with Carnival Cruise Lines she operated out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 2017 ''Carnival Fascination'' was chartered to the US Government to assist with hurricane relief work in the Virgin Islands. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic the ship was withdrawn from service and in November that year sold for conversion to a hotel ship for Century Harmony Cruise Ltd, that renamed her ''Century Harmony''. However in October 2021 she was sold for scrapping, arriving at Gadani, Pakistan as ''Y Harmony'' in February 2022. Carnival Cruise Line The ship was the fourth of Carnival Cruise Lines' built by Kværner Masa-Yards at its Helsinki New Shipyard in Finland. She was floated out on July 1, 1994, and christened ''Fascination'' by Jeanne Farcus. Fascination is a game commonly found in North American amusement parks, boardwalks and arcades. The game would be considered in the same family as skee ball, in that prizes are often won for playing the game. The game dates to 1918, with the first location opening at Coney Island, NY. It became popular during the 1920s and spread quickly from coast to coast, as evidenced in pictures of Chutes at the Beach in San Francisco, a park that operated from 1903 - 1928 (when it became Playland at the Beach). Over a century later, there are still a handful of locations that are in operation, mostly in the Northeastern US. Game design and play The game consists of a wooden table, roughly long, wide and high. The player sits at one narrow end of the table. At the other end of the table is a series of 25 holes, roughly in diameter, arranged in a five-by-five square matrix. ''Fascination'' is a 1979 French horror film directed by Jean Rollin, and starring Franca Maï and Brigitte Lahaie. It focuses on a thief who seeks refuge in a remote château where two mysterious women with potentially sinister intentions are residing. Plot In April 1905, a group of fashionable Parisian women arrive at an abattoir to drink the blood of an ox as a way to cure anemia, and find the result successful. Nearby a man named Marc, a thief, escapes from four other thieves. He is planning on heading to London with a bag of gold coins, but must take refuge from his pursuers. He discovers a château isolated in the mountains looked after by two chambermaids, Elizabeth and Eva, who are awaiting the arrival of the Marchioness and her servants. "Fascination" is a song written by English singer-songwriter David Bowie and American musician Luther Vandross for Bowie's ''Young Americans'' album in 1975. The song originated from a Vandross song called "Funky Music (Is a Part of Me)" which The Mike Garson Band used to play before Bowie concerts in 1974. An alternate mix appeared on the 1989 '' Sound + Vision'' box set, though this was replaced with the original on the 2003 reissue of the compilation. While Bowie never performed this track live in concert, it was rehearsed for potential inclusion in Bowie's set at the 1985 London Live Aid concert, though, along with "China Girl," it was eventually dropped from his final set list. "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" is a song by British synthpop group the Human League. It was composed by Jo Callis and Philip Oakey, and produced by Martin Rushent (which would be the last song he produced for the band for seven years). The song features vocals from four of the band members, including lead singer Philip Oakey, female co-vocalists Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall, and a rare vocal role from keyboardist and guitarist Jo Callis. The single was designated 'Red' on the Human League's short-lived, self-imposed labelling system of 'Blue' for pop songs and 'Red' for dance tracks. ''Fascination!'' is an EP released by British synthpop band The Human League in 1983. The EP was issued as a stop-gap release in between the albums '' Dare'' (1981) and '' Hysteria'' (1984). Released in the US and Canada, it was made available in Europe as an import. The original vinyl release of ''Fascination!'' contained six tracks, including two versions of their single "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" as well as " Mirror Man", both of which were hits in the UK and the US Also included is "Hard Times", which was originally the B-side of their 1981 hit "Love Action" and also appears on the band's 1982 remix album ''Love and Dancing''. The featured version of "I Love You Too Much" is an earlier version of the song that would later be released on the band's ''Hysteria'' album in 1984. "Fascination" is a popular waltz song with music (1904) by Fermo Dante Marchetti and lyrics (1905) by Maurice de Féraudy. It was first published in Hamburg (Anton J. Benjamin) and Paris (Édition F. D. Marchetti) in 1904 in a version for piano solo ('Valse Tzigane'). As a song with de Féraudy's words, it was first performed by the French music-hall singer Paulette Darty, in 1905, and published the same year.
