Errill
Errill () is a village in southwest County Laois, Ireland, near the County Tipperary and County Kilkenny borders. It is centred on a village green around which sits a shop with the local post office, two pubs and a Roman Catholic church. The local primary school and village hall are less than from the village near St. Kierans church and Errill cemetery. Errill Gaa Field is also located less than from the village. History Errill was the site of an ancient monastic settlement, of which the medieval St. Kieran's Church (a national monument) is the only remnant. Also, Lisduff House, an old landlord's house located in Lisduff, Errill, had many English Royals holidaying at the household in its day. There was also a Lisduff Train Station in the early 1800s. The village consisted of three quarries, two of which remain active today. Laois Senior Hurling Championship
The Laois Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois GAA, Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Clough–Ballacolla GAA, Clough–Ballacolla (incl Ballygeehan) are the title holders (2022) defeating Camross GAA, Camross in the Final and completing the club's first three-in-a-row since doing a five-in-a-row in 1918. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Bob O'Keefe Cup. The winners of the Laois Senior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship. They often do well there and Clough–Ballacolla GAA, Clough–Ballacolla were in the 2021 Leinster Final after winning the Laois Senior Hurling Championship. Errill GAA
Errill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Errill in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds on the Roscrea Road are called Pairc Eireil. The club currently amalgamates at all levels of hurling with neighbouring club Rathdowney and in 2006 the Rathdowney-Errill team won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever. The Errill club has twice won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, (1938 and 1952) and won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1981. It also won the Laois U-21 B Hurling Championship in 1997. Although football would be very much a secondary sport in the area, there has been some success with wins in the Laois Junior C Football Championship in 2000 and 2016 and the Laois Junior B Football Championship in 2017 and 2019. County Laois ( ; gle, Contae Laoise) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. The modern county takes its name from Loígis, a medieval kingdom. Historically, it has also been known as County Leix. Laois County Council is the local authority for the county. At the 2022 census, the population of the county was 91,657, an increase of 56% since the 2002 census. History Prehistoric The first people in Laois were bands of hunters and gatherers who passed through the county about 8,500 years ago.
