Electoral Division Of Fong Lim
Fong Lim is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. The district is named after Alec Fong Lim, Lord Mayor of Darwin from 1984 to 1990. There were 5,555 people enrolled in the division in August 2020. The seat is currently held by Mark Monaghan of the Labor Party. Geography Fong Lim is located in the suburban corridor south of the Stuart Highway in Darwin. It takes in the suburbs of Bayview, Stuart Park, Woolner and The Narrows, and parts of Coconut Grove and Ludmilla. History Fong Lim largely replaced the abolished seat of Millner, and was renamed in honour of former Darwin Lord Mayor Alec Fong Lim. It was first contested at the 2008 election. Based on the results of the previous election, it was calculated to have a Labor majority of 61.5% to 38.5% versus the Liberal Party. Mark Monaghan
Mark Monaghan is an Australian politician who serves as MP for the Australian Labor Party in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for the electoral division of Electoral division of Fong Lim, Fong Lim as of 2020. He is currently the 14th Speaker of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly after being elected on 23 May 2022 following the appointment of the previous Speaker Ngaree Ah Kit to Fyles ministry, cabinet. 2005 Northern Territory General Election
A general election was held in the Northern Territory, Australia, on 18 June 2005. The centre-left Australian Labor Party (Northern Territory Branch), Labor Party, led by Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Chief Minister Clare Martin, won a second term with a landslide victory, winning six of the ten seats held by the opposition Country Liberal Party in the 25-member Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, bringing their total to 19. It was the second largest victory in any Northern Territory election. 2020 Northern Territory General Election
The 2020 Northern Territory general election was held on 22 August 2020 to elect all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. Members were elected through full preferential instant-runoff voting in single-member electorates, after the optional preferential voting system introduced for the 2016 election was abolished by the ''Electoral Legislation Amendment Act 2019'' in April 2019. Territory Alliance
Territory Alliance is an Australian political party based in the Northern Territory. It was founded in 2019 by Terry Mills (Australian politician), Terry Mills, an incumbent member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister of the Northern Territory. He had been elected as a member of the Country Liberal Party (CLP). In March 2020, two additional independent MLAs joined the party, Jeff Collins (Australian politician), Jeff Collins (independent, formerly Australian Labor Party) and Robyn Lambley (formerly CLP). Jeff Collins (Australian Politician)
Jeffrey David Collins (born 27 October 1961) is an Australian politician. He was a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2016 to 2020, representing the electorate of Fong Lim. He was member of the governing Labor Party, but was one of three MPs excluded from the Labor caucus on 21 December 2018 over alleged criticism of the government, and resigned from the party on 8 February 2019 to sit as an independent. In March 2020 he joined the Territory Alliance as its second MP. Electoral Division Of Spillett
Spillett is a division of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in 2016, for the 2016 general elections, and surrounds Palmerston. It is named for Peter Spillett, a historian and former member of Darwin City Council. Historically, Palmerston has been a stronghold for the conservative Country Liberal Party. However, Spillett is based on a particularly conservative portion of Palmerston. It was created with a notional CLP majority of 17.9 percent, making it on paper the CLP's safest metropolitan seat. Before the election Lia Finocchiaro, the then-CLP member for Drysdale, opted to transfer to Spillett after much of her old base was redistributed there. The 2016 Northern Territory general election was held on Saturday 27 August 2016 to elect all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. Legislation was passed in February 2016 to change the voting method of single-member electorates from full-preferential voting to optional preferential voting. Electoral districts were redistributed in 2015. The election was conducted by the Northern Territory Electoral Commission, an independent body answerable to Parliament. The Northern Territory general election was held on Saturday 25 August 2012, which elected all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. Dave Tollner
David William Tollner (born 31 January 1966) is an Australian politician. He was the Country Liberal Party member for Solomon in the Australian House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007, and then served in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly as the member for Fong Lim from 2008 to 2016. He was the Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory under chief minister Adam Giles from 2013 to 2014. During his time in federal parliament, he sat with the Liberal Party. The Country Liberal Party of the Northern Territory (CLP) is a centre-right political party in Australia's Northern Territory. In local politics it operates in a two-party system with the Australian Labor Party (ALP). It also contests federal elections as an affiliate of the Liberal Party of Australia and National Party of Australia, the two partners in the federal coalition. The CLP originated in 1971 as a division of the Australian Country Party (later renamed the National Party), the first local branches of which were formed in 1966.
