Electoral District Of Warwick
Warwick was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1860 to 2001. It centred on the town of Warwick. The electorate was represented by two Premiers: Arthur Morgan and Thomas Joseph Byrnes. It was also the seat of former Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg. Warwick, Queensland
Warwick ( ) is a town and Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in southeast Queensland, Australia, lying south-west of Brisbane. It is the administrative centre of the Southern Downs Region Local government in Australia, local government area. The surrounding Darling Downs have fostered a strong agricultural industry for which Warwick, together with the larger city of Toowoomba, serve as convenient service centres. Kidstonites
The Kidstonites or Kidston party were a political party in the Australian state of Queensland in 1907 to 1908, formed by William Kidston. The party resulted from a split in the Queensland Labor Party and spent most of its existence in government, before merging with the conservative faction of Robert Philp in October 1908, to form the Liberal Party. History In 1903, Queensland's long-running Continuous Ministry fell and was replaced by a coalition of liberals and Labor. The government was headed by Arthur Morgan and included two Labor members, though not the party leaders. In 1906, Morgan was succeeded as Premier by William Kidston, one of the Labor members of the government. Des Booth
Desmond James Booth (20 July 1920 – 11 December 1996), Australian politician, and dairy farmer and director of a number of agricultural co-operatives and associations prior to election. David Cory (politician)
David Wheatcroft Cory (born 3 August 1928) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Cory was born in Warwick, Queensland, the son of Fitzroy Cory and his wife Margaret (née Wheatcroft). He was educated at Warwick Central and Intermediate State Schools before attending the Brisbane Grammar School. He became a farmer, working in Swanfels and Warwick. On 30 June 1967, Cory married Ms Barnes and together had one son. Public life Following the death of Otto Madsen in 1963, Cory won the resulting by-election for the Country Party. He held the seat until the 1977 Queensland state elections when he retired from politics. The National Party of Australia – Queensland (NPA-Q), commonly known as Queensland Nationals, or the National Party of Queensland, was the Queensland-state branch of the National Party of Australia (NPA) until 2008. Prior to 1974, it was known as the Country Party. The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland. It has functioned in the state since the 1880s. History Trade unionists in Queensland had begun attempting to secure parliamentary representation as early as the mid-1880s. William McNaughton Galloway, the president of the Seamen's Union, mounted an unsuccessful campaign as an independent in an 1886 by-election. A Workers' Political Reform Association was founded to nominate candidates for the 1888 election, at which the Brisbane Trades and Labor Council endorsed six candidates. Thomas Glassey won the seat of Bundamba at that election, becoming the first self-identified "labor" MP in Queensland. John Healy (Australian Politician)
John Joseph O'Connor Healy (19 March 1894 – 18 July 1970) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly in Australia. Biography Healy was born in Maryborough, Queensland, the son of John Edward James Healy and his wife Margaret (née O'Connor). He was educated at St Mary's Convent, Yuleba State School, Assumption College in Warwick and Nudgee College in Brisbane. On leaving school he took up work as a clerk with the Queensland Railways in Warwick from 1908 until 1935. After politics he was a clerk in the Queensland Public Service before being the Private Secretary from 1950–1956 to Paul Hilton, the Minister for Works in the Queensland Government. From 1956 he was once again working as a clerk, this time the Valuer-General's department. He retired in 1961. On 5 October 1921, Healy married Florence May Ahern and together had two sons and a daughter. He died in Brisbane in July 1970 and was buried in the South Brisbane Cemetery. The Country and Progressive National Party was a short-lived conservative political party in the Australian state of Queensland. Formed in 1925, it combined the state's conservative forces in a single party and held office between 1929 and 1932 under the leadership of Arthur Edward Moore. Following repeated election defeat it split into separate rural and urban wings in 1936. Queensland United Party
The Queensland United Party was the name of the Queensland state branch of the Nationalist Party of Australia in the mid-1920s. Its members contested one state election under this name, the 1923 election, in which it saw limited electoral success. It was led by Charles Taylor, the MP for Windsor. The QUP gained 3 seats from its previous election result, and won a 10% swing to it in primary votes, but failed to defeat the incumbent Labor government led by Ted Theodore. Following the election, in 1925, the United Party merged with the Country Party to become the Country and Progressive National Party (or CPNP) to contest the next election.
