Egan, Louisiana
Egan is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, United States, located between Crowley and Jennings along Louisiana Highway 100, approximately two and one-half miles north of Midland near Bayou Jonas. The community is a part of the Crowley Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 631. The community was named for William M. Egan, a businessman of Crowley, La. Demographics History The town of Egan was first known as Jonas Cove. After the postmaster of the time, it became known as Regan for a short while. In 1899, the settlement acquired the name Canal Switch when canal workers for W. W. Duson built a warehouse for the convenience of rice farmers in the area. The Southern Pacific Railroad operated a switch there to handle shipping, hence the name. The final name change was in honor of William M. Egan is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Texas, United States. It is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 2280 and Farm to Market Road 917, approximately northeast of Cleburne. Egan is part of the Joshua Independent School District. History The area was first settled during the Civil War by M.J., J.P., and W.E. Miller. The site was surveyed in 1883 by the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad after it extended its tracks through the area- a surveyor would give Egan its name. Egan Range
The Egan Range is a line of mountains in White Pine County, in eastern Nevada in the western United States. From Egan Creek near the historic community of Cherry Creek, the range runs south for approximately 108 miles (173 km), extending south of Shingle Peak in the northern part of Lincoln County. To the east are the large Steptoe Valley and the even longer Schell Creek Range. To the west are the White River Valley and the scenic White Pine Range. To the north is the Cherry Creek Range, while to the south is remote Cave Valley and the southern tip of the Schell Creek Range. It is named after the Egan Family that live in Montville. The southern section of the range rises steadily, climbing to the high ridge of Ward Mountain. Egan Center
The William A. Egan Civic and Convention Center (commonly known as simply the Egan Center) is a convention center located in Downtown Anchorage, downtown Anchorage, Alaska at 555 West Fifth Avenue. Constructed in 1984 as part of a massive Anchorage-wide public works project dubbed "Project 80s", it replaced the original Zachariah J. Loussac, Z. J. Loussac Library, which opened on the same site in 1955 and was demolished in 1981. The library moved to a new building in midtown Anchorage, also as part of Project 80s. The building is named for Alaska's first List of Governors of Alaska, governor, William Allen Egan. It features a unique glass front that runs the entire length of the facility providing the reception area and the giant Ficus retusa trees inside with plenty of natural light. Ardis G. Egan Junior High School is a public middle school for seventh graders and eighth graders in Los Altos, California. It is part of the Los Altos School District. Most of Egan's over five hundred students live in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, and a few students live in Mountain View. Egan is named after Ardis Egan, the founder and former Superintendent of the Los Altos School District. The Charles Egan Gallery opened at 63 East 57th Street (Manhattan) in about 1945, when Charles Egan was in his mid-30s. Redwood Castle
Redwood Castle (also known as ''Egan Castle'' or ''Caislean Choillte Rua'' in Irish language, Irish) is a Norman architecture, Norman castle near Lorrha in County Tipperary, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The castle was built by the Normans around 1200 AD, and was occupied by them until , when the Mac Aodhagáin (MacEgan, Egan, Keegan) were installed on the lands. As hereditary Brehon Laws, Brehons or lawyers, the Mac Aodhagáin clan established a school of learning here, which was patronised by the family for several hundred years. The castle was enlarged and renovated several times, with considerable work from 1350. Aside from the original thick stone walls, the building demonstrates some architectural features common to Irish fortifications of the period (including a murder-hole), and some less common features (including a Sheela na gig).
