Dent De Lys
The Dent de Lys (2,014 m) is a mountain in the Bernese Alps ( Swiss Prealps), in the canton of Fribourg. Geography The Dent de Lys is the natural border of the municipalities of Châtel-St-Denis (west side) and Haut-Intyamon on the east side. If we follow its south ridge, we can find Folliu Borna (1,849 m, the Vanil des Artses (1,993 m), the Cape au Moine (1,941 m), the Dent de Jaman (1,875 m) and finally les Rochers de Naye (2,042 m). Climbing The col de Lys (1,783 m) allows the hikers and skiers to reach the summit of the Dent de Lys from the east and the west. Ernest Hemingway mentions the Dent de Lys in his short story Cross Country Snow On 25 March 1940, a roped party had an accident near the summit. Three climbers died. Dent Blanche
The Dent Blanche is a mountain in the Pennine Alps, lying in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. At -high, it is one of the highest peaks in the Alps. Naming The original name was probably ''Dent d'Hérens'', the current name of the nearby Dent d'Hérens which does not overlook the Val d'Hérens. The nearby north face of the Dent d'Hérens is glaciated while the Dent Blanche holds much less snow, it was even called ''Dent Noire'' (''Black Tooth'') on the Woerl Atlas of 1842. In fact on older maps, in the area where both summits lie, only the name ''Weisszahnhorn'' (from German: ''White Tooth Peak'') was given, the French name (''Dent Blanche'') only appearing in 1820. Because cartographers usually made their observations far from the mountainous remote areas and also because the Dent d'Hérens is sometime hidden behind the Dent Blanche thus less visible, the latter received the name. The Dent Bridge is a suspension bridge in the northwest United States, located in north central Idaho in Clearwater County, north of Orofino. It is up the North Fork of the Clearwater River, now Dworshak Reservoir. Completed in 1971 at a cost of $7,848,950, it has a main span of , and an overall length of . Arthur Philip Dent is a fictional character and the hapless protagonist of the comic science fiction series ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' by Douglas Adams. Fort Dent is a historic fort and present-day park in Tukwila, Washington. History Fort Dent was a blockhouse built on the orders of Territorial Governor, Isaac Stevens, in approximately 1860. It was located southeast of the confluence of the Black and Green Rivers, which join to form the Duwamish River. It was named for General Frederick Tracy Dent, the brother-in-law of Ulysses S. Grant. Previously the land had been occupied by the Duwamish tribe, but had been partially vacated after the signing of the Point Elliot Treaty in 1855.
