Daytona Prototype International
A Daytona Prototype International (DPi) was a type of sports prototype racing car developed specifically for the International Motor Sports Association's WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, as their top class of car, acting as a direct replacement, and spiritual successor of the Daytona Prototypes. They are named after the main series event, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The class made its racing debut at the 2017 24 Hours of Daytona. The Daytona Prototype International was replaced by a joint IMSA-Automobile Club de l'Ouest, ACO class known as Le Mans Daytona h, Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2023. Additionally, the LMDh class is also able to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023. Developmental History On 2 July 2015, IMSA announced the base regulations for its then un-named new for 2017 Prototype class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, which woul ...

Digital Public Infrastructure
Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) refers to digital systems and platforms that enable the delivery of services, facilitate data exchange, and support digital governance across various sectors. DPI includes elements such as digital identity systems, payment platforms, and data exchange protocols, designed to be scalable, interoperable, and accessible to both government and private sector participants. These infrastructures aim to support the functioning of public services, governance, and economic processes. It can also be understood as an intermediate layer in the digital ecosystem enabling applications across various public sectors. Examples of DPI include India's Aadhaar system for digital identity, UPI for payments, and the India Stack data exchange framework. Another example of digital public infrastructures is Estonia’s X-Road, which is an open-source government data exchange system. Initiatives such as the German Sovereign Tech Fund provides funding for open digital ...

Dye Penetrant Inspection
Dye penetrant inspection (DP), also called liquid penetrate inspection (LPI) or penetrant testing (PT), is a widely applied and low-cost inspection method used to check surface-breaking defects in all non-porous materials (metals, plastics, or ceramics). The penetrant may be applied to all non-ferrous materials and ferrous materials, although for ferrous components magnetic-particle inspection is often used instead for its subsurface detection capability. LPI is used to detect casting, forging and welding surface defects such as hairline cracks, surface porosity, leaks in new products, and fatigue cracks on in-service components. History The oil and whiting method used in the railroad industry in the early 1900s was the first recognized use of the principles of penetrants to detect cracks. The oil and whiting method used an oil solvent for cleaning followed by the application of a whiting or chalk coating, which absorbed oil from the cracks revealing their locations. Soon a dy ...

Dual Polarisation Interferometry
Dual-polarization interferometry (DPI) is an analytical technique that probes molecular layers adsorbed to the surface of a waveguide using the evanescent wave of a laser beam. It is used to measure the conformational change in proteins, or other biomolecules, as they function (referred to as the conformation activity relationship). Instrumentation DPI focuses laser light into two waveguides. One of these functions as the "sensing" waveguide having an exposed surface while the second one functions to maintain a reference beam. A two-dimensional interference pattern is formed in the far field by combining the light passing through the two waveguides. The DPI technique rotates the polarization of the laser, to alternately excite two polarization modes of the waveguides. Measurement of the interferogram for both polarizations allows both the refractive index and the thickness of the adsorbed layer to be calculated. The polarization can be switched rapidly, allowing real-time m ...

Dry Powder Inhaler
A dry-powder inhaler (DPI) is a device that delivers medication to the lungs in the form of a dry powder. DPIs are commonly used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD although DPIs (such as inhalable insulin) have also been used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. DPIs are an alternative to the aerosol-based inhalers commonly called metered-dose inhaler (or MDI). The DPIs may require some procedure to allow a measured dose of powder to be ready for the patient to take. The medication is commonly held either in a capsule for manual loading or in a proprietary form inside the inhaler. Once loaded or actuated, the operator puts the mouthpiece of the inhaler into their mouth and takes a sharp, deep inhalation (ensuring that the medication reaches the lower parts of the lungs), holding their breath for 5–10 seconds. There are a variety of such devices. The dose that can be delivered is typically less ...

Disposable Personal Income
Disposable income is total personal income minus current taxes on income. In national accounting, personal income minus personal current taxes equals disposable personal income or household disposable income. Subtracting personal outlays (which includes the major category of personal r privateconsumption expenditure) yields personal (or, private) savings, hence the income left after paying away all the taxes is referred to as disposable income. Restated, consumption expenditure plus savings equals disposable income after accounting for transfers such as payments to children in school or elderly parents' living and care arrangements. The marginal propensity to consume (MPC) is the fraction of a change in disposable income that is consumed. For example, if disposable income rises by $100, and $65 of that $100 is consumed, the MPC is 65%. Restated, the marginal propensity to save is 35%. For the purposes of calculating the amount of income subject to garnishments, United St ...

Pass Interference
In American and Canadian football, pass interference (PI) is a foul that occurs when a player interferes with an eligible receiver's ability to make a fair attempt to catch a forward pass. Pass interference may include tripping, pushing, pulling, or cutting in front of the receiver, covering the receiver's face, or pulling on the receiver's hands or arms. It does not include catching or batting the ball before it reaches the receiver. Once the ball touches any defensive player or eligible offensive receiver, the above rules no longer apply and the defender may tackle the receiver or attempt to prevent them from gaining control of the ball. Once a forward pass is in the air it is a loose ball and thus any eligible receiver – all defensive players are eligible receivers – may try to catch it. When a defensive player catches a forward pass it is an interception and their team gains possession of the ball. Some actions that are defined as pass interference may be overlooked if ...

Data Processing Inequality
The data processing inequality is an information theoretic concept that states that the information content of a signal cannot be increased via a local physical operation. This can be expressed concisely as 'post-processing cannot increase information'. Statement Let three random variables form the Markov chain X \rightarrow Y \rightarrow Z, implying that the conditional distribution of Z depends only on Y and is conditionally independent of X. Specifically, we have such a Markov chain if the joint probability mass function can be written as :p(x,y,z) = p(x)p(y, x)p(z, y)=p(y)p(x, y)p(z, y) In this setting, no processing of Y, deterministic or random, can increase the information that Y contains about X. Using the mutual information, this can be written as : : I(X;Y) \geqslant I(X;Z), with the equality I(X;Y) = I(X;Z) if and only if I(X;Y\mid Z)=0 . That is, Z and Y contain the same information about X, and X \rightarrow Z \rightarrow Y also forms a Markov chain. Proof On ...
