''Deadwood'' is an American western (genre), Western television series that aired on the premium television, premium cable television, cable network HBO from March 21, 2004, to August 27, 2006, spanning List of Deadwood episodes, three seasons and 36 episodes. Deadwood (Lakota: ''Owáyasuta''; "To approve or confirm things") is a city that serves as county seat of Lawrence County, South Dakota, United States. It was named by early settlers after the dead trees found in its gulch. The city had its heyday from 1876 to 1879, after gold deposits had been discovered there, leading to the Black Hills Gold Rush. At its height, the city had a population of 25,000, attracting Old West figures such as Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, and Wild Bill Hickok (who was killed there). The population was 1,156 at the 2020 census. The entire town has been designated as a National Historic Landmark District, for its well-preserved Gold Rush-era architecture. Deadwood Draw
Deadwood Draw is part of the Sidney-Black Hills Trail near Sidney, Nebraska, which provided supplies for gold mining operations in the Black Hills from 1874 to 1881. The draw served as a staging area for freight wagons carrying supplies to the Black Hills and contains ruts caused by the wheels of the freight wagons and the animals that pulled them. The draw is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Background In 1868, the U.S. government signed the Fort Laramie Treaty, which promised the Lakota people that the Black Hills would be exempt from white settlement. Deadwood, Texas
Deadwood is an unincorporated community in Panola County, Texas, United States. The community is located on Farm to Market Road 31, about east of Carthage. Deadwood, previously known as Linus, is on Farm Road 2517 some 10 miles east of Carthage in eastern Panola County. The area was first settled in 1837 by Adam LaGrone and his family, who built a homestead not far from Socogee Creek, after they were granted around 10,000 acres from the Mexican government. Deadwood was the first community east of the Sabine River in Panola County. Men of the LaGrone family fought in the Texas Revolution, the Regulator-Moderator War, and the Civil War. After the end of the Civil War, a grandson of Adam, Confederate veteran Hiram Clark LaGrone built a mill and gin that became the nucleus of the later town. ''Deadwood'' is a board game for 3-8 players produced by Cheapass Games. In it, players assume the roles of bit actors working for a B-Movie Studio who try to make as much money as possible. This is done by taking on roles such as "man on fire," "woman in black dress," and "falls off roof." Players are represented by dice, which denote what "level" actor each player is. The original version of the game was available through various game outlets. The rules, boards, and cards for a revised edition (''Deadwood 2.0'') are now available for free download from the company's website, and are being developed into a deluxe edition via Kickstarter.
