Saskia Rao-de Haas (born 1971) is a virtuoso cellist and composer from the Netherlands based in New Delhi, India. She is married to the sitarist Shubhendra Rao. Early life Saskia was born in Abcoude, the Netherlands in a family of music lovers. Saskia studied cello under the Hungarian cellist Tibor de Machula and went on to do a Masters in Ethnomusicology from the University of Amsterdam and the Conservatory of Rotterdam where she studied under Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Koustuv Ray. Musical career She first came to India in 1994 where she studied Indian music under Dr. Sumati Mutatkar at the Delhi University. Subsequently, she has also been tutored by Pandit D.K. Gil or Gilles De Haes (1597–1657), sometimes known as Guldehasius, was a Flemish soldier of the Eighty Years War, the Thirty Years War and the Cretan War (1645–69), who rose through the ranks to be a general. By 1632 he was in Austrian service in Bohemia, commanding an infantry regiment. De Haes fought in the Battle of Lutzen (1632), the Siege of Ingolstadt, and the Battle of Nördlingen (1634). In 1635 he was appointed general of the Army of Tyrol, occupying the Valtelline in 1637. He was injured in the Battle of Ziegenhain (1640), and spent six months recovering. François "Frans" De Haes (28 July 1899 – 4 November 1923) was a Belgian weightlifter who won a gold medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. He set one world record in the clean and jerk in 1922. To escape the German occupation, his family fled from Antwerp to the Netherlands, where he started weightlifting at age 17. Troy de Haas (born 15 June 1979) is an Australian tower running, mountain running and orienteering competitor. In 1999 he won a bronze medal in the long event at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Varna, Bulgaria. It was the first ever medal to be won by a non-European at the international level in the sport of Orienteering. In 2006 he achieved Australia's best ever men's result at a Senior World Orienteering Championships placing 7th in the sprint event in Nagoya, Japan.
