Community Health Trust
As part of the English NHS programme of separating the provision of services from commissioning known as Transforming Community Services a number of community health trusts were established when these services were separated from primary care trusts. This was one of a number of options taken. In some places community services were transferred to an existing mental health trust or hospital trust. In South West England there was considerable pressure for staff to establish social enterprises such as Peninsula Community Health to take on these services. Campaigners in Gloucestershire successfully challenged the decision to establish a social enterprise to provide community health services there in 2012. Contracts to run NHS community services are subject to competitive tendering processes under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, so it is not clear whether these organisations will survive. English NHS
The National Health Service (NHS) is the publicly funded healthcare system in England, and one of the four National Health Service systems in the United Kingdom. It is the second largest single-payer healthcare system in the world after the Brazilian Sistema Único de Saúde. Primarily funded by the government from general taxation (plus a small amount from National Insurance contributions), and overseen by the Department of Health and Social Care, the NHS provides healthcare to all legal English residents and residents from other regions of the UK, with most services free at the point of use for most people. Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust
Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust was established in 2011. It runs a wide range of services and around Leeds. It runs the Leeds Eating and Drinking Team which aims to tackle the growing problem of malnutrition. In April 2015 the trust was criticised by the Care Quality Commission which raised concerns about insufficient staffing levels and a “high reliance” on temporary staff, particularly at the South Leeds Independence Centre. Wendy Neill, one of the trust's speech and language therapists, set up the Giving Voice choir in 2014. Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust
Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS provider of community services in Kent, East Sussex and Newham. It was awarded Foundation Trust status in March 2015. The organisation, which has about 5,500 staff, was formed on 1 April 2011 by a merger of Eastern and Coastal Kent Community Services NHS Trust and West Kent Community Health, as part of the Transforming Community Services programme. Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, commonly referred to as HCT, is an NHS organisation providing adult and children's community health services, such as district nursing and health visiting, across Hertfordshire. Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust was a community health trust established in 2012 under the Transforming Community Services programme to run community services in Gloucestershire after proposals to set up a community interest company, Gloucester Care Services, were abandoned. The trust was superseded by Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust in 2019. The organisation provided a range of in-patient and out-patient services to a population of about 600,000, including nursing, physiotherapy, re-ablement and adult social care services. Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust was one of the community health trusts created in 2012. It was authorised as a foundation trust in October 2014. The trust has established a Responsive Workforce Model using HealthRoster Software and SafeCare, which they say has reduced agency spend, ensured quality and freed up nurses for hands-on care. It was named by the ''Health Service Journal'' as the second-best community trust to work for in 2015. At that time it had 3227 full-time equivalent staff and a sickness absence rate of 4.13%. 78% of staff recommend it as a place for treatment and 65% recommended it as a place to work.
