A radio format or programming format (not to be confused with broadcast programming) describes the overall content broadcast on a radio station. The radio format emerged mainly in the United States in the 1950s, at a time when Radio broadcasting, radio was compelled to develop new and exclusive ways to programming by competition with Television broadcasting, television. The formula has since spread as a reference for commercial radio programming worldwide. A radio format aims to reach a more or less specific audience according to a certain type of programming, which can be thematic or general, more informative or more musical, among other possibilities. Polskie Radio Spółka Akcyjna (PR S.A.; English: Polish Radio) is Poland's national public-service radio broadcasting organization owned by the State Treasury of Poland. Children's radio networks are radio networks which are targeted to children. These networks attempted to form in the late 1980s to 1990s. Children's Radio Network Children's Radio Network was the first children's radio network which went to the air twice. Children's Radio Network started broadcasting from its flagship station in Jacksonville in 1984. It was founded and funded by William Osewalt. The network built up to six affiliated stations. Osewalt ran into some personal financial problems, forcing a shutdown of the network in 1986. Osewalt relaunched the network on WWTC in Minneapolis in May 1990 as Radio AAHS. As of May 1991, the network had no addition affiliates but expected to add some by the end of the year. DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. DR was originally funded by a media licence, however since 2022, the media license has been replaced by an addition to the Danish income tax. DR Ramasjang is a Danish television channel owned by DR targeting children aged 3–10. The channel is named after the Danish word , which refers to a loud or festive uproar, similar to the English word '' hullabaloo''. History DR presented their idea to launch a channel for children in 2005 in preparation for the new media settlement of 2006. When the settlement was presented in June 2006, the plan was for the children's channel to broadcast in the daytime, while a history channel would broadcast in the evening. In preparation for the launch of the new channel, DR concentrated their division for children's programmes, DR B&U, to Aarhus. Signe Lindkvist, who had participated in many children's programmes, was appointed as editor of the channel in 2008. NRK Super is a Norwegian TV & radio channel aimed at children, run by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. The TV channel is broadcast on the digital terrestrial network, on the same frequency as NRK3 from 7am to 7pm, and was launched 1 December 2007. The NRK Super radio channel is broadcast on DAB radio (from 6am to 9pm) and the internet, and was originally named NRK Barn (''NRK Children'' in English). It was launched on 16 October 2007. NRK Super also has a web community where children can sign up and play games that allow them to get their own profile and get friends online. Here also small children can visit the homepages of shows they have seen on TV, such like Fantorangen, Tøfferud (Chuggington), Komet Kameratene, and others. KiRaKa – the name is an acronym formed from KInderRAdioKAnal – was a digital radio channel produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in Cologne, Germany. It is a specialist channel serving children aged 5 to 16. From 1 January 2016 until 30 November 2019 KiRaKa has broadcast 24 hours a day via cable, satellite, and DAB in Germany, as well as worldwide on the Internet. Its programming at 19.05–20.00 daily as well as at 7.05–8.00 and 14.05–15.00 on Sundays is simulcast on WDR 5. A variety of children's programming is broadcast between 6.00 and 21.00 daily. Radio and Television of Slovakia ( sk, Rozhlas a televízia Slovenska ) or RTVS is a nationwide public broadcasting, state-funded organisation in Slovakia. It is headquartered in Bratislava and led by Ľuboš Machaj.
