Cherry Red Records is a British independent record label founded in Malvern, Worcestershire by Iain McNay in 1978. The label has released recordings by Dead Kennedys, Everything But the Girl, The Monochrome Set, and Felt, among others, as well as the compilation album ''Pillows & Prayers''. In addition to releasing new music, Cherry Red also acts as an umbrella for individual imprints and catalogue specialists. Cherry Red was listed by ''Music Week'' as one of the UK's top ten record companies in Q1 2015 for sales of artist albums. History Cherry Red grew from the rock promotion company (similarly named after the song "Cherry Red" by The Groundhogs) founded in 1971 to promote rock concerts at the Malvern Winter Gardens. "Cherry Red" is a song by the Bee Gees, written by Barry Gibb, released as the B-side of "I Want Home" in March 1966, and has become one of the famous Bee Gees songs in the Philippines and Brazil. The song's opening chord was E followed by Barry singing ''Where are you?''. "Cherry Red" is a ballad featuring a harmony by Barry and Robin. It was recorded around February 1966 in Festival Studios, Sydney, during the same time as "I Want Home". Colin Petersen thinks he played drums on the two tracks. ''Split'' is a 1971 blues rock studio album recorded by UK blues-rock group Groundhogs, originally released by Liberty Records in 1971 with catalogue number LBG 83401. It was reissued on CD reissue in 2003 by Liberty / EMI Records, with catalogue number 07243-584819-2-1. In September 2020 it was released on limited-edition red vinyl (as well as CD) from Fire Records, including a second disc containing a number of outtakes and new sleeve notes by Dave Henderson of Mojo Magazine. According to Tony McPhee's sleeve notes for the 2003 CD reissue, the lyrics for ''Split'' were inspired by a panic attack he experienced in May 1970, and the studio version of "Cherry Red" was recorded live in a single take. ''Katla'' is the second album by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ida Maria. It was released in Norway in September 2010 and internationally in June 2011. Album information The album was recorded in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, sometime during the Summer of 2010, while the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted, which led Ida Maria to title it Katla. The original edition of the album featured, on its cover, a photo of the volcano taken in 1918. Produced by Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, P!NK), it was considered by Maria as a good opportunity to experiment. Cherry Red Airline
Cherry Red Airline, also known as the Cherry Air Service, was the first airline in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. History It was founded by Norman Cherry and H. Holroyde in 1928. Cherry noticed an unmet demand for transportation services by mines in Saskatchewan, especially Consolidated Mining and Smelting, and decided to create an airline to meet that need. He hired pilot Alva Malone and partnered with H. Holroyde. The airline had a fleet consisting of two airplanes: a two-seat Pheasant biplane and a six-seat Buhl CA-6 Airsedan (CF-AAY). To earn extra revenue, Cherry decided to issue stamps starting at $0.10 for carrying airmail, making the airline the first airmail provider in Prince Albert. Cerise ( or ; ) is a deep to vivid reddish pink. Etymology The colour or name comes from the French word , meaning "cherry". According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the first recorded use of ''cerise'' as a colour name in English was in ''The Times'' of November 30, 1858.
