Barcade
Barcade is a chain of arcade bars with locations in the northeastern United States, Los Angeles, and Detroit. First opened in Brooklyn on October 1, 2004, the venues feature a mix of classic video games and pinball and serve American craft beers. History The first Barcade opened in 2004 in a former metal shop at 388 Union Avenue in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, and features a combination of vintage arcade games and American craft beers. The company is owned and operated by four long-time friends: brothers Kevin Beard and Scott Beard, Pete Langway and Paul Kermizian (director of ''American Beer''). The combination of classic video games and craft beer proved successful, and the brand expanded into Jersey City, New Jersey, and the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. American Beer (film)
''American Beer'' is a 2004 feature-length documentary directed by Paul Kermizian that chronicles and documents the American craft brewing industry. The film was shot in the spring of 2002. Kermizian and a group of four left New York City and traveled by minivan across the United States visiting 38 craft and independent breweries in 40 days. Breweries featured in the film include Dogfish Head Brewery, Shipyard Brewing, Victory Brewing Company, McNeill's Brewery, Climax Brewing, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Anchor Brewing Company, New Glarus Brewing Company, New Belgium Brewing Company, Bell's Brewery and others. The film screened at various film festivals throughout 2004 and 2005 and was released on DVD towards the end of 2005. A special edition of the DVD released shortly afterward contains more than 80 minutes of deleted scenes from breweries featured in the film along with other scenes deleted from the original cut. ''Timber'' is an arcade game manufactured by Bally Midway in 1984. The goal is to amass points by chopping down trees, then logrolling in bonus rounds. Two players can compete simultaneously in the same play area. ''Timber'' was designed by Steve Meyer, who also designed '' Tapper'', and both games have a similar audio/visual style. Gameplay The player assumes the role of a lumberjack in the game and must chop down a given number of trees that sequentially pop up from the ground in a limited amount of time to complete each level. The game is controlled using two joysticks, with one controlling the player's movement and the other corresponding to left or right chops with the player's axe. As the game progresses, the quota gradually increases and the time decreases. While playing, the player must avoid beehives that are thrown by bears or lose a life. ''Q*bert'' (also known as ''Qbert'') is an arcade video game developed and published for the North American market by Gottlieb in 1982. It is a 2D action game with puzzle elements that uses isometric graphics to create a pseudo-3D effect. The objective of each level in the game is to change every cube in a pyramid to a target color by making Q*bert, the on-screen character, hop on top of the cube while avoiding obstacles and enemies. Players use a joystick to control the character. The game was conceived by Warren Davis and Jeff Lee.
