Guéret
Guéret (; Occitan: ''Garait'') is a commune and the prefecture of the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. Geography Guéret is a light industrial town, the largest in the department, with a big woodland and some farming not far from the town centre. It is approximately by road northeast of Limoges at the junction of the D942, D940 and the N145 roads. Population Sights *The church of St. Pierre and St. Paul, dating from the thirteenth century. *The Hotel de Moneyroux (incorrectly called "Castle of the Counts of Marche", as no count ever lived in Guéret). This building, of Gothic style, was constructed in the fifteenth century by Antoine Allard (1839-1896). It is now the headquarters of the General Council of the Creuse. La Celle-Dunoise
La-Celle-Dunoise (; oc, La Cela de Dun) is a commune in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. Geography A very picturesque farming and quarrying village situated some northwest of Guéret, at the junction of the D15 and the D22, by the banks of the river Creuse. History La Celle-Dunoise has Gallo-Roman origins, as shown by various relics discovered within the territory of the commune. In 1154, a document mentions the name of ''Ecclesia Cella'', which by 1339 had become ''Ecclesia de Cella dunensi'', giving the name of the village today. A castle was built here in the 12th century but It was destroyed in 1500. It belonged to the family of La Celle, one of the most powerful families of La Marche in the Middle Ages. Bussière-Dunoise (; oc, Bussiera de Dun) is a commune in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. Geography An area of forestry and farming comprising the village and several hamlets situated some northwest of Guéret, at the junction of the D14, D47 and the D22. Four small tributaries of the Creuse have their source within the commune. Le Bourg-d’Hem is a commune in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. Geography A farming and forestry area comprising the village and a few small hamlets situated some north of Guéret at the junction of the D15, D33, D56 and the D48 roads. The river Creuse flows through the commune, which is dammed near Guémontet, flooding much of the valley. Bourganeuf
Bourganeuf (; Limousin: ''Borgon Nuòu'') is a commune in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. Geography An area of farming and forestry, comprising the village and several hamlets situated in the valley of the Taurion river, some south of Guéret, at the junction of the D8, D912, D940 and the D941. History The year 1103 saw the village become home to the Knights of St John, who built a castle here. Prince Cem Sultan, pretender to the throne of the Ottoman Empire, was kept prisoner here in the fifteenth century. In 1886, the commune was the third place in all of France to be supplied with power using hydroelectricity. Thanks to French engineer, Marcel Deprez, the waterfalls of the river were harnessed to light up the streets, mairie, shops and cafes. Bonnat, Creuse
Bonnat (; oc, Bònac) is a commune in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in France. Geography An area of farming and some associated light industry, comprising the village and several hamlets situated in the valley of the Petite Creuse, some north of Guéret, at the junction of the D6, D15 and the D56. Miscellany The commune owns and manages a nearby chateau de Mornay which has its own racing circuit for cars and motorbikes and is used for corporate functions. It also owns a restaurant in the town near to the church. A small stream flows by the southern border of the town on which stands a recently renovated lavoir (wash-house). A recent development of a very large book repository on land owned by the commune has caused some concern locally because of extensive lorry traffic on the narrow rural roads.
