Aeromonas
''Aeromonas'' is a genus of Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that morphologically resemble members of the family Enterobacteriaceae. Most of the 14 described species have been associated with human diseases. The most important pathogens are '' A. hydrophila'', '' A. caviae'', and '' A. veronii'' biovar ''sobria''. The organisms are ubiquitous in fresh and brackish water. They group with the gamma subclass of the Proteobacteria. Two major diseases associated with ''Aeromonas'' are gastroenteritis and wound infections, with or without bacteremia. Gastroenteritis typically occurs after the ingestion of contaminated water or food, whereas wound infections result from exposure to contaminated water. In its most severe form, ''Aeromonas'' spp. can cause necrotizing fasciitis, which is life-threatening, usually requiring treatment with antibiotics and even amputation. Although some potential virulence factors (e.g. endotoxins, hemolysins, enterotoxins, adheren ...

Aeromonas Hydrophila
''Aeromonas hydrophila'' is a heterotrophic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium mainly found in areas with a warm climate. This bacterium can be found in fresh or brackish water. It can survive in Wikt:aerobic, aerobic and Hypoxia (environmental), anaerobic environments, and can digest materials such as gelatin and hemoglobin. ''A. hydrophila'' was isolated from humans and animals in the 1950s. It is the best known of the species of ''Aeromonas''. It is resistant to most common antibiotics and cold temperatures and is oxidase- and indole-positive. ''Aeromonas hydrophila'' also has a symbiotic relationship as gut flora inside of certain leeches, such as ''Hirudo medicinalis''. Structure ''Aeromonas hydrophila'' bacteria are Gram-negative, straight rods with rounded ends (bacilli to coccibacilli shape) usually from 0.3 to 1.0 μm in width and 1.0 to 3.0 μm in length. They can grow at temperatures as low as 4 °C. These bacteria are motile by a polar flagellum. Path ...

Aeromonas Dhakensis
''Aeromonas dhakensis'' is a Gram-negative bacterium first isolated from aquariums in Portugal in 2005. The species is globally distributed in aquatic environments, like other species in the genus ''Aeromonas''. Isolation ''A. dhakensis'' was first isolated in 2005 from samples obtained from fish aquariums in Porto, Portugal and named ''A. aquariorum''. ''Aeromonas'' species are widely distributed in aquatic environments. Prior to the discovery of ''A. dhakensis'', the most prevalent species identified were '' A. hydrophila'', ''A. caviae'', and '' A. veronii''. Once identified, researchers found the species to be globally distributed in aquatic environments, similar to the other members of the genus. Due to its similarity to ''A. hydrophila'', ''A. dhakensis'' went unrecognized prior to 2005. The two species differ in that ''A. hydrophila'' is able to produce acid from L-arabinose, while ''A. dhakensis'' cannot. ''A. hydrophila'' is also less likely to use citrate as a carbon so ...

Aeromonas Salmonicida
''Aeromonas salmonicida'' is a pathogenic bacterium that severely impacts salmonid populations and other species. It was first discovered in a Bavarian brown trout hatchery by Emmerich and Weibel in 1894. ''Aeromonas salmonicida's'' ability to infect a variety of hosts, multiply, and adapt, make it a prime virulent bacterium. ''A. salmonicida'' is an etiological agent for furunculosis, a disease that causes sepsis, haemorrhages, muscle lesions, inflammation of the lower intestine, spleen enlargement, and death in freshwater fish populations. It is found worldwide with the exception of South America. The major route of contamination is poor water quality; however, it can also be associated stress factors such as overcrowding, high temperatures, and trauma. Spawning and smolting fish are prime victims of furunculosis due to their immunocompromised state of being. Morphology and bacterial characteristics ''Aeromonas salmonicida'' is a Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, nonmot ...
