Ackley, Iowa
Ackley is a city in the Franklin and Hardin counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 1,599 at the 2020 census. History In 1852, immigrants began purchasing farms and settling in the north Hardin County area. In the fall of 1852, L.H. Artedge, a frontiers-man from Indiana staked a claim just north of the Hardin County line and built a cabin close to where Highway 57 now passes. Another settler, Thomas Downs, became the first permanent resident of Ackley. Later his widow sold a strip of land from Butler Street to the four county corner for $3.00 an acre to Minor Gallop. Gallop built a house, just east of Highway 57 which became an inn, a stopover for stagecoaches, and the first post office. Many caravans arrived in anticipation of settling in this area. Roby Parriott and wife, Abigail, settled in Washington Township, Butler County. Parriott immediately began to acquire more land and purchased what is now the business section of Ackley. Ackley, Wisconsin
Ackley is a town in Langlade County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 524 at the 2010 census. The town was founded March 4, 1879. It was named after William L. Ackley, who established a logging camp in the area. Geography Ackley is in southwestern Langlade County, bounded to the west by Lincoln County and to the south by Marathon County. The city of Antigo, the Langlade county seat, borders the town to the east. According to the United States Census Bureau, Ackley has a total area of , of which are land and , or 0.49%, are water. The East Branch and West Branch of the Eau Claire River flow southward across the eastern side of the town, joining to form the Eau Claire in the southeast part of town. The Eau Claire River continues southwest to join the Wisconsin River south of Wausau. The northwest part of Ackley drains to the Pine River, while the southwest part is drained by the Trappe River.
