Ath
Ath (; nl, Aat, ; pcd, Ât; wa, Ate) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. The municipality consists of the following districts: Arbre, Ath, Bouvignies, Ghislenghien, Gibecq, Houtaing, Irchonwelz, Isières, Lanquesaint, Ligne, Maffle, Mainvault, Meslin-l'Évêque, Moulbaix, Ormeignies, Ostiches, Rebaix, Villers-Notre-Dame, and Villers-Saint-Amand. Goliath

Ducasse D'Ath
The Ducasse d'Ath is a traditional parade held to mark the victory of David over Goliath that takes place in the town of Ath in Belgium. The parade is held on the fourth Sunday of August every year and is characterised by the presence of processional giants depicting many characters from local history. From 2008 to 2022, it was recognised as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. History The city of Ath was founded in 1140 by Baldwin IV, Count of Hainaut, by buying territory from his liegeman, Gilles de Trazegnies. The city experienced considerable expansion in the 14th century, with a church dedicated to Saint Julian of Brioude coming up outside the enclosure of the walled city. The procession used to begin at the church and proceed to the new town. The fourth Sunday of August was chosen as it fell near the feast day of Saint Julien, which is on 28 August. Ormeignies
Ormeignies is a village of Wallonia and district of the municipality of Ath, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It has an ancient history. Farmers in Neolithic time were settled there, as far back as 4000 BC. The village church, dedicated to Saint Ursmer and built from stone and brick c.1780, is a good example of neo-classical architecture. The farm of the Grande Rosière The Rosiere seigniory belonged to Cambron-Casteau abbey that possessed more than one square kilometres of the village area. The farm of the Grande Rosière was run by monks until the 18th century. Sold as a national asset in 1798 during the French Revolution, it became the property of the prince of Ligne. Irchonwelz
Irchonwelz is a village and district of the municipality of Ath, located in the Hainaut Province in Wallonia, Belgium. The history of the village goes back to at least the 13th centre, when ownership of the land was transferred from the Bishop of Cambrai to the . Later, it passed to the de Trazegnies family.
