Miscellaneous Auxiliary
The United States Navy, United States Coast Guard, and United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) use a hull classification symbol (sometimes called hull code or hull number) to identify their ships by type and by individual ship within a type. The system is analogous to the pennant number system that the Royal Navy and other European and Commonwealth navies use. History United States Navy The U.S. Navy began to assign unique Naval Registry Identification Numbers to its ships in the 1890s. The system was a simple one in which each ship received a number which was appended to its ship type, fully spelled out, and added parenthetically after the ship's name when deemed necessary to avoid confusion between ships. Under this system, for example, the battleship ''Indiana'' was USS ''Indiana'' (Battleship No. 1), the cruiser ''Olympia'' was USS ''Olympia'' (Cruiser No. 6), and so on. Beginning in 1907, some ships also were referred to alternative ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Action Group (Nigeria)
The Action Group (AG) was a Nigerian nationalist political party established in Ibadan on 21st March 1951, by Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The party was founded to serve as the platform for realizing his preliminary objective of mobilizing Western Nigerians to forestall the NCNC control of the Western Region and the subsequent aim of cooperating with other nationalist parties to win independence for Nigeria. It benefited immensely from the relationships developed in the Egbe Omo Oduduwa formed in Awolowo's days in London as a student. History Background In 1941, Obafemi Awolowo nursed the Nigerian Youth Movement in Ibadan, oriented to educated elites. In 1945, Awolowo formed the group ''Egbe Omo Oduduwa'', now to forge Yoruba unity bringing together traditional and educated elites. Allocation Group
An AG or allocation group is a subvolume in a file system which maintains its own track of free blocks and file data. This makes simultaneous file operations possible; only one write can happen to an AG at any time, but multiple operations can be performed on the file system, each happening in a different AG. In symmetric multiprocessing, SMP systems, multiple central processing unit, CPUs can write to different AGs, enabling physically concurrent disk operations on a single file system. Whereas a single hard disk is not capable of reading or writing to multiple places simultaneously, a file system or partition that utilizes a scheme such as RAID or logical volume management may encompass multiple physical disks. In this case, the use of allocation groups may grant additional file system throughput. Allocation groups are used by these file systems: * XFS from Silicon Graphics, SGI, an XFS AG can have a max size of 1TiB * Btrfs * JFS (file system), JFS * ext2, ext3 and ext4 use b ... Agamous
Agamous (AG) is a homeotic gene and MADS-box transcription factor In molecular biology, a transcription factor (TF) (or sequence-specific DNA-binding factor) is a protein that controls the rate of transcription of genetic information from DNA to messenger RNA, by binding to a specific DNA sequence. The f ... from '' Arabidopsis thaliana''. The TAIR AGI number is AT4G18960. The identity of a floral organ is determined by particular combinations of homeotic genes, these genes derive from a group of undifferentiated cells known as the floral meristem. The presence of the homeotic gene in Arabidopsis ceases all meristem activity and proceeds to facilitate the development of stamens and carpels.
