First Contact (astronomy)
In astronomy, a transit (or astronomical transit) is a phenomenon when a astronomical object, celestial body passes directly between a larger body and the observer. As viewed from a particular vantage point, the transiting body appears to move across the face of the larger body, eclipse, covering a small portion of it. The word "transit" refers to cases where the nearer object apparent size, appears smaller than the more distant object. Cases where the nearer object appears larger and completely hides the more distant object are known as occultation, ''occultations''. However, the probability of seeing a transiting planet is low because it is dependent on the alignment of the three objects in a nearly perfectly straight line. Many parameters of a planet and its parent star can be determined based on the transit. In the Solar System One example of a transit involves the motion of a planet between a Earth, terrestrial observer and the Sun. This can happen only with inferior ...

First Contact (Lastlings Album)
''First Contact'' is the debut studio album by Australian electronic pop duo Lastlings and was released on 20 November 2020. The album was announced in September, alongside an album trailer shot in Japan. In a press statement, the pair said the album was about "moments we experience for the first time", saying "It is about those beautiful moments when we feel love for the first time, a child taking its first steps or travelling to a new destination. It's also about the somber moments in our life where we have lost something or someone for the first time and how we grow and change from these." The album pays homage to the siblings' Japanese heritage. "No Time" draws inspiration from Kazuo Ishiguro's dystopian novel '' Never Let Me Go'', "Take My Hand" was inspired by their favourite anime, Makoto Shinkai's ''Your Name'' and the guitar line in "Out of Touch" was inspired by the piano melody of Joe Hisaishi's "The Wind Forest" from Hayao Miyazaki's ''My Neighbor Totoro''. As such, it was published in ''The Science Fiction Hall of Fame Volume One, 1929-1964''. Plot Space travel is routine between planets in the Solar System. Ships function very much like naval warships or research vessels. First Contact (anthropology)
In anthropology, first contact is the first meeting of two communities previously without contact with one another. Notable examples of first contact are those between the Spanish Empire and the Arawak in 1492; and the Aboriginal Australians with Europeans in 1788 when the First Fleet arrived in Sydney. Such contact is sometimes described as a "discovery", such as the British and United States did by creating the legal theory of the " Doctrine of Discovery". It is generally the more technologically complex society that is able to travel to new geographic regions to make contact with those more isolated, less technologically complex societies. However, some object to the application of such a word to human beings, which is why "first contact" is generally preferred. The use of the term "discovery" tends to occur more in reference to geography than cultures; for an example of a common discovery debate, see Discoverer of the Americas. The fascination with first contact has gone th ...

The Next Generation)
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things already mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with pronouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of pronoun ''thee'') when followed by a ...
