First published by Ballantine Books in July 1968, it was a fix-up of two novellas which between them had made McCaffrey the first woman writer to win a Hugo Award, Hugo and a Nebula Award. Dragonflight (convention)
Dragonflight is a three-day gaming convention run by a corporation that is also called Dragonflight. It's held over the last weekend of August. The first Dragonflight was in 1980. History Dragonflight initially was a creation of members of The Brass Dragon Society, a Seattle role-playing group. Those gamers extended the opportunity to gather at a convention which was to be called Dragonflight. Members of Western Washington Wargamers, an all-facets gaming group, convinced the Brass Dragon Society to embrace all gaming in the convention and joined in the effort to create the first Dragonflight in 1980. Eventually they formed a non-profit organization and Seattle University became the home of the annual convention for nearly twenty-five years. Some thirty years after its founding, the convention moved to a spacious local hotel. During that time, many area gaming organizations, companies, and individuals have contributed as volunteers to make the convention a success. Every year, gamers ...

Dragonflight (video Game)
''Dragonflight'' is a 1990 role-playing video game developed and published by Thalion Software for the Amiga, Atari ST, and MS-DOS. The game started development in January 1987 by two German programmers Udo Fischer and Erik Simon. Plot The game came with a 104-page novella that told the backstory of the game. Once abundant, the disappearance of magic and dragons has led to the world needing both to save humans, dwarves and elves from evil powers. The party consists of four characters: a human fighter, a human wizard, a dwarf fighter, and an elf all-rounder. Their quest is to find the dragons and a number of magical items. Gameplay The overworld is depicted from ''Ultima (series), Ultima''-style overhead view. The dungeons are in first-person perspective. When the turn-based combat starts the perspective changes to a sideview. Combat is played on a grid map and an overhead view of the battlefield is also displayed on screen. The game is entirely controlled with a mouse. Recepti ...

The Flight Of Dragons
''The Flight of Dragons'' is a 1982 animated fantasy film produced and directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. loosely combining the speculative natural history book of the same name (1979) by Peter Dickinson with the novel '' The Dragon and the George'' (1976) by Gordon R. Dickson. It stars the voices of John Ritter, Victor Buono, James Gregory, James Earl Jones, and Harry Morgan. The film centers upon a quest undertaken to stop an evil wizard who plans to rule the world by dark magic. A major theme within the story is the question of whether science and magic can co-exist. This is told mostly through the experience of character Peter Dickinson, drawn from the 20th century into the magical realm. Released direct to video in United Kingdom on August 17, 1982, it was aired as an ABC "''Saturday Night Movie''" on August 2, 1986, and released by Warner Brothers as a made-to-order DVD in the US on 17 November 2009 as part of the "Warner Archive Collection". The opening song ...

The Flight Of Dragons (book)
''The Flight of Dragons'' is a 1979 speculative evolution book written by Peter Dickinson and illustrated by Wayne Anderson. Thesis According to Dickinson's hypothesis, the chief obstacle to admitting the past existence of dragons is the difficulty of powered flight by such a large organism. To resolve this, he introduces a dirigible-like structure in which hydrochloric acid would dissolve large amounts of rapidly growing bone, releasing massive amounts of hydrogen that, once aloft, would support the body above the ground. The dragon's wings are traced to "modifications of the ribcage" (an anatomical evolutionary path shared by the genus ''Draco''), and the expulsion of fire from the throat, as a means of removal of excess gas. The absence of fossil evidence is traced again to the internal acids, which (in Dickinson's view) would dissolve the bones soon after death. Dickinson states he got the idea for his "pseudo-scientific monograph" after looking at one of Ursula K. LeGuin' ...
