MTV Unplugged
''MTV Unplugged'' is an American television series on MTV showcasing musical artists usually playing acoustic instruments. The show aired regularly from 1989 to 1999 and less frequently from 2000 to 2009, when it was usually billed as ''MTV Unplugged No. 2.0''. Since 2009, ''MTV Unplugged'' specials have aired occasionally, sometimes online only. Episodes and specials have tended to showcase one artist or group, playing a combination of their hit songs and covers. Many of the artists who appeared on the show in the 1990s released their ''Unplugged'' session as an album, and some of these albums were commercial and critical hits. Eric Clapton's ''Unplugged (Eric Clapton album), Unplugged'' (1992) sold 26 million copies worldwide and became the best-selling live album of all time. Acoustic Music
Acoustic music is music that solely or primarily uses instruments that produce sound through acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means. While all music was once acoustic, the retronym "acoustic music" appeared after the advent of electric instruments, such as the electric guitar, electric violin, electric organ and synthesizer. Acoustic string instrumentations had long been a subset of popular music, particularly in folk. It stood in contrast to various other types of music in various eras, including big band music in the pre-rock era, and electric music in the rock era. Music reviewer Craig Conley suggests, "When music is labeled acoustic, unplugged, or unwired, the assumption seems to be that other types of music are ''cluttered'' by technology and overproduction and therefore aren't as ''pure''." ''Unplugged'' is a live album by English pop band, The Korgis. It was released in 2006. The unplugged concert was originally only recorded for inclusion on the ''Kollection'' DVD in the summer of 2005, but was released as a proper album the following year. MTV Unplugged (Bryan Adams Album)
''Unplugged'' is an acoustic live album by Canadian musician Bryan Adams. The album was recorded completely on September 26, 1997, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Recorded by David Hewitt and Bob Clearmountain on the Remote Recording Silver Truck. Adams was joined by Irish piper Davy Spillane and Michael Kamen who wrote orchestrations for many of the songs and brought students from the Juilliard School to play them. Three new songs were included; "Back To You", "When You Love Someone", and "A Little Love". The song "If Ya Wanna Be Bad - Ya Gotta Be Good" makes its debut on an album, originally appearing on the B-side of "Let's Make a Night to Remember" - to which it is paired on the ''Unplugged'' album. ''MTV Unplugged in New York'' is a live album by American Rock music, rock band Nirvana (band), Nirvana, released on November 1, 1994, by DGC Records. It features an acoustic performance recorded at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993, for the television series ''MTV Unplugged''. The show was directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller, Beth McCarthy and aired on the cable television network MTV on December 16, 1993. In a break with ''MTV Unplugged'' tradition, Nirvana played mainly lesser-known material and covers of songs by the The Vaselines, Vaselines, David Bowie, Lead Belly and Meat Puppets. Unlike prior ''MTV Unplugged'' performances, which were entirely acoustic, Nirvana used electric amplification and guitar effects during the set. ''MTV Unplugged'' is a 1993 live album and video by American alternative rock band 10,000 Maniacs, recorded for the ''MTV Unplugged'' series. The album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and spawned the hit single " Because the Night", a cover of the song written by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen. Mnemonic is an alternative rock band, formed as Mnemonic Groove in "Singapore" in 1997 and now based in London, England. The band formed as a result of impromptu jam sessions and quickly released their debut album on the Angel J.
