In dance and gymnastics, a turn is a rotation of the body about the vertical axis. It is usually a complete rotation of the body, although quarter (90°) and half (180°) turns are possible for some types of turns. Multiple, consecutive turns are typically named according to the number of 360° rotations (e.g., ''double'' or ''triple'' turn). There are many types of turns, which are differentiated by a number of factors. The performer may be supported by one or both legs or be airborne during a turn. When supported by one leg, that leg is known as the ''supporting'' leg and the other as the ''free'', ''raised'', or ''working'' leg. During airborne turns, the first leg to leave the floor is the ''leading'' leg. Trunk, arm and head positions can vary, and in turns with one supporting leg, the free leg may be straight or bent. Rotation, or spin, is the circular movement of an object around a '' central axis''. A two-dimensional rotating object has only one possible central axis and can rotate in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. A three-dimensional object has an infinite number of possible central axes and rotational directions. If the rotation axis passes internally through the body's own center of mass, then the body is said to be ''autorotating'' or '' spinning'', and the surface intersection of the axis can be called a ''pole''. ''The Turn'' is the ninth studio album by American rock band Live, released on October 28, 2014. It is their only release with lead singer Chris Shinn and is their final album with guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer, and drummer Chad Gracey who were all fired from the band in 2022. History The band announced that they would be taking a two-year hiatus in June 2009, but in November, guitarist Chad Taylor revealed that lead singer Ed Kowalczyk had left the band. ''Turn'' is the eponymously titled third full-length offering from the Irish indie trio Turn (band), Turn. ''Turn'' offered a more pop/singer songwriter direction for Meath based band. Their first album, ''Antisocial (album), Antisocial'', had shown a strong Pixies (band), Pixies style influence, their second album, ''Forward (Turn album), Forward'', offered an even darker side to the band's sound, but with ''Turn'' they showed they were not getting any darker. The album was a mixture of catchy pop tunes such as "It's About Nothing" and "Stop", and also more Elliott Smith inspired tunes, such as "Close Your Eyes" and "Wildside". Opinions were very mixed about the album among fans and critics. Some called it a mile stone in musical growth for the band, others claimed it was a last-ditch effort by the band to become more commercial and popular on the Irish airwaves.
