True Stories (film)
''True Stories'' (full onscreen title: ''True Stories: A Film About a Bunch of People in Virgil Texas.'') is a 1986 American musical film, musical satirical film, satirical comedy film directed by David Byrne, who stars alongside John Goodman, Swoosie Kurtz, and Spalding Gray. The majority of the film's music is supplied by Talking Heads. A soundtrack album, titled ''Sounds from True Stories'', featured songs by Byrne, Talking Heads, Terry Allen (country singer), Terry Allen & The Panhandle Mystery Band, and others. Around the same time, Talking Heads released an album titled ''True Stories (Talking Heads album), True Stories'', composed of studio recordings of songs featured in the film. ''True Stories'' was released by Warner Bros. in the United States, Canada, Italy, and Sweden in 1986, with limited release elsewhere the following year. Sounds From True Stories
''Sounds from True Stories'', subtitled ''Music for Activities Freaks'', is the soundtrack to David Byrne's 1986 film '' True Stories''. It was initially released on vinyl and cassette, but was given a CD and 2xLP release in 2018. The album is not a complete soundtrack recording, featuring only a couple of the vocal songs heard in the film, with the rest being instrumental music. Byrne's band Talking Heads released the album '' True Stories'', which contained versions of the other songs in the film. Track listing "Glass Operator" is an orchestral rendition of "Dream Operator" featuring a glass harmonica; "City of Steel" is a steel guitar version of "City of Dreams", which, along with "Dream Operator", appears on Talking Heads' '' True Stories''. ''True Stories'' was an Australian biographical documentary series which explored the personal journeys of ordinary, and sometimes extraordinary Australians. It is based on the ABC's ''Australian Story''. The 4-episode first season of the program rated well, attracting an average of over 1.7 million viewers per episode. As a result, Channel Seven announced a second season, consisting of over 20 episodes which aired from mid-2006. Original host Anna Coren did not front the entire second season as mid-way through production Coren was posted as U.S. Correspondent for Seven. Nathan Rogers
Nathan Rogers (born July 16, 1979 in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton, Ontario) is a Canadians, Canadian folk musician/songwriter. He is the son of Stan Rogers, Stan and Ariel Rogers. His father, a folk musician and songwriter, died in a fire aboard Air Canada Flight 797 on June 2, 1983. Rogers was immersed in the songwriting tradition from an early age, gaining a keen appreciation for singers and songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen. Early musical experience consisted of singing in school choirs and plays. While attending the boarding school Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario, Oakville, Rogers worked with the Appleby Boys Choir, a world-class boys choir, occasionally touring as far afield as New Orleans. Rogers completed his high school education at Westdale Secondary School in 1997 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1998. David Sancious
David Sancious (born November 30, 1953) is an American musician. He was an early member of Bruce Springsteen's backing group, the E Street Band, and contributed to the first three Springsteen albums, and again on ''Human Touch'' (1992), '' Tracks'' (1998), and ''Western Stars'' (2019). Sancious is a multi-instrumentalist but is best known as a keyboard player and guitarist. He left the E Street Band in 1974 to form his own band, Tone, and released several albums. He subsequently became a popular session and touring musician, most notably for Stanley Clarke, Narada Michael Walden, Zucchero Fornaciari, Eric Clapton, Peter Gabriel, Jack Bruce, and Sting among many others. In 2014, Sancious was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the E Street Band. Lev Razgon
Lev Emmanuilovich Razgon (russian: Лев Эммануи́лович Разго́н; 1 April 1908 – 8 September 1999) was a Soviet journalist, a prisoner of the Gulag from 1938 to 1942 and again from 1950 to 1955, a Russian writer and, latterly, a human rights activist. Razgon was born in Belorussia to the family of Mendel Abramovich Razgon and Glika Izrailevna Shapiro. In the 1920s they moved to Moscow and in 1932, he graduated from the history faculty of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. His career before his arrest in 1938 was in great measure due to his marrying into the new Soviet elite and, in particular, two men: his wife Oksana's father Gleb Boky, a high-ranking NKVD officer, and her step-father Ivan Moskvin (politician), a leading figure in the Central Committee. Later in life, Razgon fell into the category of Gulag detainees who rejoined the Communist Party after their release. He did not resign from the Party until 1988.
