The Trench (Dix)
''The Trench'' (German: ''Der Schützengraben''), but earlier known as ''Das Kriegsbild'' ("The War Picture") or simply ''Der Krieg'' ("The War"), was an oil painting by the German artist Otto Dix. The large painting was made from 1920 to 1923, one of several anti-war works by Dix in the 1920s inspired by his experience of trench warfare in the First World War. The painting was immediately controversial when first exhibited in Cologne in 1923. It was acquired by the Dresden City Museum in 1928 but not exhibited there. The work was condemned by the Nazis, confiscated and included in the exhibition of degenerate art (''Entartete Kunst'') held in Munich in 1937. It was sold to an art dealer in early 1940, but its fate is not known. It is considered lost and may have been destroyed in the war. ''The Trench'' (known digitally as ''The Trench: Meg 2'') is a 1999 science fiction horror novel by American author Steve Alten. It is the sequel to '' Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror'' and the second book in the ''MEG'' series. The book continues the adventure of Jonas Taylor, a paleobiologist studying the megalodon, who now discovers another prehistoric monster, ''Kronosaurus'', also thought to have been extinct. A sequel titled '' Meg: Primal Waters'' was released in 2004. Plot summary 4 years after the events of the previous novel, a deep sea submersible, Proteus, is attacked by unknown creatures and destroyed while on a geological survey of the Mariana Trench's sea floor. ''The Trench'' is a 1999 British war film directed by William Boyd and starring Paul Nicholls and Daniel Craig. It depicts the experiences of a group of young British soldiers in the 48 hours leading up to the Battle of the Somme in 1916. James D'Arcy, Cillian Murphy and Ben Whishaw also appear. The Trench is the name applied to both a fictional kingdom, and its inhabitants as a group, that escaped the destruction of Atlantis in DC comics. The Trench appear in the 2018 live-action DC Extended Universe film ''Aquaman''. Publication history The Trench first appeared in ''Aquaman'' (vol. 7) #1 (November 2011) and were created by Geoff Johns. In September 2011, The New 52 had rebooted DC's continuity. Abdelrahman bin Ibrahim al-Munif ( ar, عَبْدُ الرَّحْمٰن المُنِيفٌ) known by his nickname Abdelrahman Munif (May 29, 1933 – January 24, 2004) was a Saudi Arabian novelist, short story writer, memoirist, journalist, thinker, and cultural critic. He is considered one of the most significant modern Saudi authors and one of the best in the Arabic language of the 20th century. His novels include strong political elements as well as mockeries of the Middle Eastern elite classes. His work offended the rulers of Saudi Arabia which led to the banning of many of his books and the revocation of his Saudi Arabian citizenship. Biography Munif was born in 1933 as a Saudi national and brought up in Amman, Jordan to Saudi Arabian parents, and his grandmother was an Iraqi. In 1952 he moved to Baghdad to study law and later moved to Cairo. He received a law degree from the Sorbonne and a PhD in oil economics from the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Economics. ...
