''Jackpot! The Best Bette'', released as ''The Best Bette'' in Europe, is a compilation album of recordings by American singer Bette Midler released on September 23, 2008. The album release was originally set to coincide with Midler's Las Vegas show, ''Bette Midler: The Showgirl Must Go On'' which debuted on February 20, 2008 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, but was postponed to April, then August 26, and later to the actual September release. After some thirty-five years in showbusiness and having recorded some twenty albums for Atlantic Records/Warner Music and three for Columbia Records/ Sony BMG, this is the second single-disc compilation of Midler's best-known recordings, following 1993/1996's ''Experience the Divine'', and this time released by Warner Music Group's reissue subsidiary Rhino Entertainment. In 2004, ''Rolling Stone'' magazine ranked the song on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". ''Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook'' is an album by the American singer Bette Midler. It was produced by Barry Manilow and marked the first time that Midler had worked with Manilow in more than twenty years. It was also Midler's first album for Columbia Records after nearly 30 years recording for Warner Music Group (being signed at times to both Atlantic Records and Warner Bros. Records). Columbia Records is owned by Sony Music Entertainment. After the death of singer Rosemary Clooney in the summer of 2002, Manilow claims to have had a dream that he would produce a tribute album and Midler would be the singer on the album. Stuart Hamblen
Carl Stuart Hamblen (October 20, 1908 – March 8, 1989) was an American entertainer who became one of radio's first singing cowboys in 1926, going on to become a singer, actor, radio show host, and songwriter. He underwent a Christian conversion and became a Temperance movement supporter and recurring candidate for political office. He is best known as the composer of the song "This Ole House" (1954), most notably recorded by Rosemary Clooney and Shakin' Stevens. Early life Hamblen was born into the family of an itinerant Methodist preacher on October 20, 1908 in Kellyville, Texas, United States. He married Suzy Daniels and they had two children. "This Ole House" (sometimes written "This Old House") is an American popular song written by Stuart Hamblen, and published in 1954. Rosemary Clooney's version reached the top of the popular music charts in both the US and the UK in 1954. The song again topped the UK chart in 1981 in a recording by Shakin' Stevens. Stuart Hamblen version Hamblen recorded the song in March 1954 and released it as a single in May 1954. It became very successful, peaking at number 2 on the ''Billboard'' Country & Western chart, as well as being a Top 30 hit on the Hot 100, known then as the ''Best Sellers in Stores''. Andy Razaf (born Andriamanantena Paul Razafinkarefo; December 16, 1895 – February 3, 1973) was an American poet, composer and lyricist of such well-known songs as " Ain't Misbehavin'" and " Honeysuckle Rose". Biography Razaf was born in Washington, D.C., United States. His birth name was Andriamanantena Paul Razafinkarefo. He was the son of Henri Razafinkarefo, nephew of Queen Ranavalona III of the Imerina kingdom in Madagascar, and Jennie Razafinkarefo (née Waller), the daughter of John L. Waller, the first African American consul to Imerina. Joseph Copeland Garland (August 15, 1903, Norfolk, Virginia – April 21, 1977, Teaneck, New Jersey) was an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and arranger, best known for writing "In the Mood". Garland studied music at Shaw University and the Aeolian Conservatory.
