Space Marine
The space marine, an archetype of military science fiction, is a kind of soldier who operates in outer space or on alien worlds. Historical marines fulfill multiple roles: ship defence, boarding actions, landing parties, and general-purpose high-mobility land deployments that operate within a fixed distance of shore or ship. By analogy, hypothetical space marines would defend allied spaceships, board enemy ships, land on planets and moons, and satisfy rapid-deployment needs throughout space. History The earliest known use of the term "space marine" was by Bob Olsen in his short story "Captain Brink of the Space Marines" (''Amazing Stories'', Volume 7, Number 8, November 1932), a light-hearted work whose title is a play on the song " Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines", and in which the protagonists were marines of the "Earth Republic Space Navy" on mission to rescue celebrity twins from aliens on Titan. Olsen published a novella sequel four years later, "The Space Marines a ...

Space Marine (Warhammer 40,000)
In the fictional universe of ''Warhammer 40,000'', the Space Marines, also known as the Adeptus Astartes, are superhuman warrior-monks who fight for the Imperium of Man. They wear mechanised suits of armour and have modified genomes that grant them superhuman strength and endurance. Some Space Marines have betrayed the Imperium and serve the Gods of Chaos, and are thus known as Chaos Space Marines. ''Warhammer 40,000'' is a miniature wargame, where Space Marines are one of the playable factions that can be used. They are the most well-known and popular characters in ''Warhammer 40,000'', always featuring in the artwork and starter set of each edition of ''Warhammer 40,000'' and other spin-off games such as ''Space Hulk'' and '' Epic'' (excluding the 2nd edition ''Titan Legions''), and simpler derivative games such as ''Space Crusade''. Likewise, they are the most popular protagonists in spin-off fiction such as novels and video games. Publication history Space Marines were first ...

Space Marine II
Space is the boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events have relative position and direction. In classical physics, physical space is often conceived in three linear dimensions, although modern physicists usually consider it, with time, to be part of a boundless four-dimensional continuum known as spacetime. The concept of space is considered to be of fundamental importance to an understanding of the physical universe. However, disagreement continues between philosophers over whether it is itself an entity, a relationship between entities, or part of a conceptual framework. Debates concerning the nature, essence and the mode of existence of space date back to antiquity; namely, to treatises like the '' Timaeus'' of Plato, or Socrates in his reflections on what the Greeks called '' khĂ´ra'' (i.e. "space"), or in the '' Physics'' of Aristotle (Book IV, Delta) in the definition of ''topos'' (i.e. place), or in the later "geometrical conception of pla ...

Epic (game)
Epic is a tabletop wargame set in the fictional ''Warhammer 40,000'' universe. Whereas ''Warhammer 40,000'' involves small battles between forces of a few squads of troops and two or three vehicles, Epic features battles between armies consisting of dozens of tanks and hundreds of soldiers. Due to the comparatively larger size of the battles, ''Epic'' miniatures are smaller than those in ''Warhammer 40,000'', with a typical human being represented with a 1:285 scale, 6mm high figure, as opposed to the 28mm minis used in ''Warhammer 40,000''. Since being first released in 1988 as ''Adeptus Titanicus'', it has gone through various editions with varying names. In the ''Warhammer Fantasy (setting), Warhammer Fantasy'' universe, ''Warmaster'' fills much the same "large-scale battle" role as ''Epic'' does in the ''Warhammer 40,000'' universe, though the two systems do not share rules. Gameplay overview A standard game of ''Epic: Armageddon'' will normally take around two to three hou ...
