Sing Sing
Sing Sing Correctional Facility, formerly Ossining Correctional Facility, is a maximum-security prison operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in the village of Ossining, New York. It is about north of New York City on the east bank of the Hudson River. It holds about 1,700 inmates and housed the execution chamber for the State of New York until the abolition of capital punishment in New York in 2004. The name "Sing Sing" was derived from the Sintsink Native American tribe from whom the land was purchased in 1685, and was formerly the name of the village. In 1970, the prison's name was changed to the Ossining Correctional Facility, but it reverted to its original name in 1985. "Sing Sing" is a song by disco-funk band Gaz, a project of keyboardist Thor Baldursson, guitarist Mats Bjoerklund, and producer Jürgen Korduletsch. It appeared on the group's only album, ''Gaz'', and was released as a 12" single in 1978, Salsoul Records catalog number SG206. "Sing Sing" has been sampled by hip hop artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Wu-Tang Clan, Chubb Rock, and Lil Jon. In the early 1990s, it was featured prominently in breakbeat tracks from the Baltimore club genre, where DJs looped and modified it using Ensoniq ASR-10 samplers and Mackie mixers. In the early 2000s it also became a staple of the Jersey club sound. The song was featured on the fourth volume of Street Beat Records' ''Ultimate Breaks and Beats'' collection. ''Masterpiece Theatre'' is the second studio album by Canadian rock group Marianas Trench. It was released on February 24, 2009, in Canada and September 28, 2010, in the United States. The album was available for preview at MuchMusic's website before the release. The last song on the album, titled "Masterpiece Theatre III", is a collage of all the songs on the album including its five singles. The album is a slight departure from Fix Me, containing more theatrical elements and instruments while still retaining the punk rock influence of its predecessor. The songs "Masterpiece Theatre" (I, II, and III), "Beside You", and "Good To You" show some experimentation using pianos, strings, and harmonies. Sing Sing (1957 – 22 April 1972) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was the leading British two-year-old of 1959, when he was unbeaten in six races including the National Breeders' Produce Stakes and the Cornwallis Stakes. As a three-year-old he failed to win in three races, being narrowly beaten in the King's Stand Stakes and the King George Stakes. He was then retired to stud where he had considerable success as a sire of sprinters. He died in 1972. Background Sing Sing was a powerfully built dark bay horse with a white blaze standing 16.1 hands high bred by his owner W. J. Stirling. He was sired by Tudor Minstrel, the winner of the 2000 Guineas in 1947 and the leading colt of his generation in Britain. Tudor Minstrel's other progeny included the Kentucky Derby winner Tomy Lee. Ossining is a village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population at the 2020 United States census was 27,551, an increase over 25,060 at the 2010 census. As a village, it is located in the town of Ossining. Geography Ossining borders the eastern shores of the widest part of the Hudson River, the Tappan Zee. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.3 square miles (16.4 km2), of which 3.2 square miles (8.3 km2) is land and 3.1 square miles (8.1 km2) (49.37%) is water. Demographics As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 25,060 people living in the village.
