''The Singles Collection 1984/1990'' is a compilation album covering Scottish pop singer Jimmy Somerville's career in the bands Bronski Beat, The Communards and as a solo artist. It was released in 1990. In Italy, the album was marketed under the alternate title, ''1984/1990 Greatest Hits.'' Content ''The Singles Collection 1984/1990'' includes the first four Single (music), singles by Bronski Beat, released in 1984 and 1985, which feature Somerville as lead singer; following his departure from Bronski Beat the band had three further hits ("Hit That Perfect Beat", "C'mon C'mon" and "Cha Cha Heels") but they are not included on the album as it is intended as a retrospective of Somerville's career. ''A Singles Collection'' (released as ''Six of One, Half-Dozen of the Other'' in the U.S.) is a compilation album of Marillion singles from both the Fish era and the Steve Hogarth era, celebrating the band's ten-year jubilee (taking 1982, when their debut single was released, as the starting point). It includes the band's six most successful singles of the Fish era, plus all six Steve Hogarth singles up to that year. The tracks on it are not ordered chronologically, unlike on the later compilations '' The Best of Both Worlds'' (1997) and ''The Best of Marillion'' (2003) that likewise cover both vocalists' eras. Content The album contains fifteen Top 20 hits from the UK and German charts, but omits hits such as "Hey Mr. Heartache" (Top 15 Germany) and "It's Here" (Top 15 in Sweden, Norway and Switzerland). The album, which peaked at No. 26 and spent three weeks on the chart, contains songs released on singles, compilations and splits. Among the songs, two are alternate versions of songs previously released on Dropkick Murphys albums, five songs were written by the band (one of which was co-written with The Business) and the rest were covers.
