Pride is defined by Merriam-Webster as "reasonable self-esteem" or "confidence and satisfaction in oneself". A healthy amount of pride is good, however, pride sometimes is used interchangeably with "conceit" or "arrogance" (among other words) which are negative. Oxford defines it as "the quality of having an excessively high opinion of oneself or one's own importance." This may be related to one's own abilities or achievements, positive characteristics of friends or family, or one's country. Bob Pryde
Robert Ireland Pryde (25 April 1913 – 30 June 1998) was a Scottish footballer, who played for East Fife, St Johnstone and Blackburn Rovers. He also appeared as a guest player for West Ham United later in World War II. In the summer of 1949, he joined Wigan Athletic as a player-manager. During the 1949–50 season, he played 22 games and scored two goals in the Lancashire Combination as the club finished as the league's runners-up. He decided to end his playing career before the start of the following season, and went on to win the league title as manager. He left the club in January 1952. David Pryde (footballer)
David Pryde (10 November 1913 – 1987) was a Scottish footballer. Born in Newtongrange, Pryde started out as an amateur at Margate, before being signed by Margate's "parent" club, Arsenal, in May 1935. He was immediately loaned back out to Margate for another two seasons, before returning to Arsenal and taking his place in the club's reserve side as wing half. He made his first-team debut in a First Division match against Sunderland on 4 February 1939, a game Arsenal won 2–0. He went on to make four appearances that season, but like many footballers of his generation, his career was interrupted by World War II. During the War he served with the Royal Air Force in India and Burma, while occasionally playing wartime matches for Arsenal (making 23 appearances in total, which are not officially counted). David Johnstone Pryde
David Johnstone Pryde (3 March 1890 – 2 August 1959) was a Scottish Labour politician. The youngest son of Matthew James John Maitland Pryde, of Gorebridge, Midlothian, he was educated at Lasswade Secondary School and at the Scottish Labour College. He worked as a colliery clerk and as a miners' trade union official. Duncan Pryde
Duncan McLean Pryde (June 8, 1937 – November 15, 1997) was a hunter, trapper, lexicographer and politician from Northwest Territories, Canada. He served as a member of the Northwest Territories Council from 1966 to 1975. His book based on his experiences, ''Nunaga'' (1971), has been reprinted several times. James Ferrier Pryde (1866–1941) was a British artist. A number of his paintings are in public collections, but there have been few exhibitions of his work. He is principally remembered as one of the Beggarstaffs, his artistic partnership with William Nicholson, and for the poster designs and other graphic work they made between 1893 and 1899, which had a powerful and far-reaching influence on graphic design for many years. Josephine Pryde (born 1967 in Alnwick, Northumberland) is an English artist. In 2010, reviewing a show of Pryde's work which featured "seven colour photographs of extreme close-ups of clothing on a body, and four sculptures made from half-finished woven baskets and metal butcher’s hooks," the reviewer Dan Fox said that the work "seemed somewhat aloof," adding his opinion that "there was a healthy cynicism here perhaps worth listening to." Mabel Scott Lauder Pryde (12 February 1871 – July 1918) was a Scottish artist, the wife of artist William Nicholson, and the mother of artists Ben Nicholson and Nancy Nicholson and the architect Christopher 'Kit' Nicholson. Life She was the daughter of David Pryde, headmaster of Edinburgh Ladies College 1870–1891, and Barbara Lauder, whose father William was a brother of the famous Scottish artists Robert Scott Lauder and James Eckford Lauder. Peggy Pryde (born 19 July 1867 (baptised as Letitia Matilda on 14 May 1876 in Lambeth, London, England) – 17 May 1943 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) was a British music hall performer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She appeared in the early Australian talking film '' Fellers'' in 1930. Biography Pryde was one of three children born to the popular music hall artiste Jenny Hill and John Wilson Woodley (died 8 January 1890), an acrobat who used the stage name Jean Pasta and who later abandoned his wife and young family.
