''Nick'' is a 2021 novel by American writer Michael Farris Smith. It is his sixth novel and was published on January 5, 2021 by Little, Brown and Company. It is a prequel to F. Scott Fitzgerald's landmark 1925 novel ''The Great Gatsby''. Synopsis ''Nick'' centers on the narrator of ''The Great Gatsby'', Nick Carraway, in the years before the events of Fitzgerald's novel. It follows Nick Carraway as a soldier in World War I, his detours in Paris, and his time in New Orleans before his move up to Long Island. Background Smith first read ''The Great Gatsby'' as a high school student, but he did not fully understand it at the time. Nick's (Nick's Tavern) was a tavern and jazz club located at the northwest corner of 10th Street and 7th Avenue in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan, New York City, which was at its peak in the 1940s and 1950s. Many jazz artists performed at the club including Bill Saxton (a Friday night regular), Pee Wee Russell, Muggsy Spanier, Miff Mole, and Joe Grauso, among others. Artists like Miles Davis and John Coltrane used to visit the pub to relax after their own gigs. During the early 1950s, the club was noted for its regular Phil Napoleon and The Original Memphis Five Dixieland performances. Nick is a German free-to-air television channel for children, part of the international Nickelodeon brand. Originally launched in 1995, and relaunched in 2005, Nickelodeon is based in Berlin. The channel is available on subscription services and as an unscrambled, free-to-air (FTA) satellite signal. On 31 March 2010, the channel re-adopted the name ''Nickelodeon'' on air and online, in addition to the new Nickelodeon logo and graphical package being rolled out internationally at the time. Since then, the channel is also broadcast in English in addition to German on a secondary audio track. Désirée Gerda Saskia Pamela Amneris Aida Nick (born 30 September 1956 in West-Berlin) is a German reality television personality, actress, dancer, and author. Biography Born in Berlin, Nick studied ballet at ''Berliner Tanzakademie''. She became a member of the ensemble of ''Deutsche Oper Berlin'' and later of ''Bavarian State Opera'' in Munich.
